DVD drive hub

Has anyone replaced the DVD drive hub?

Herre is the deal. I hav a Phillips DVD drive and a clear case. I wanna do the DVD drive mod that came with the case but I cant get the spindle out of the Phillips drive. The one in the Phillips drive is metal and I dont think it would fit right so what I wanna do is take the hub out of my old Samsung from my old PC and use ithe Samsungs plastic spindle but I dont know how to get it out.
