tried installing Linux now my windows is screwed *FIXED* (see last post)

and it wrote over windows
now I have like 2 partitions... Its basically f'd up

i tried to reinstall but i have a bunch of partitions that it wont let me rejoin back together
and i dont think i can, i tried reinstalling windows, but when i boot from the disk in windows and from the HD it gives me the hal.dll error
i am screwed

how do i put my partitions back to one disk?

Ouch,  one of the worst files that you lost, but fixable
go into safe mode if you can and put a fresh copy of that file down.  \system32\hal.dll 
if not go into the recovery window type expand d:\i386\hal.dl_ c:\windows\system32
if still doesn't work recovery console
bootcfg /list
bootcfg /rebuild

only can combine partitions after you wipe them.  Resizing is a different mater.   
 Try that.  should fix your problem

linux wrote over windows

over the past 16 hours s**T went down, and i had like 4 partitions and 2 things of allocated space

i got most of it together, i literally have 2 fragments of allocated space im trying to peice back to my mac osx disk so i can
boot camp and reinstall windows...but it wont let me, i cant get these two fragments!!!

I guess just back up all your  .  to get all the partions back together, try getting a copy of live linux.  use their partitioner.  or I heard that Ultimate boot cd has one.  usally works with that stituation. 

is it a the Read only error?

Im in it, its the same as gparted... How do i fix it with this?

ok get your OS X install disk should of come in the box with your MBP now boot into the disk and go to tools or utilitys and choose disk utility then you should be able to rejoin your partitions with that - cant remember exactly how to but make a backup first just in case. then run first aid on your main disk as it will help get rid of any disk errors that may of been created when merging the 2 partitions back together

Nvm, it works again.    But I still have allocated space...

after you back up everything, unallocate all the partitions. (keep your OSX partition)  it's hard to do this over web since I'm not using linux at the moment.  that has a Gpartion on it or anything.  that linux was not meant to have one

I'll try installing it on my flash drive so I can give more detailed instructions.

so all of the the space is unallocated.   Now either install a fresh copy of windows or create a partition thats .ext3 and a swap

i cant, i need bootcamp and it needs my disk alltogether full again...

What did you do?  that's some seriously mess up partitions.  I'v never used that. It looks to simple. the delete partition is right there  Don't get the concept of the Buy now button

good thing you added before I submited.  didn't mean to double post. hehehe
.exet3 is a popular file system for linux.  It's like NTFS for windows.  .ext3 holds all the systemfiles and Swap holds all the saved files like word document

are you booting up in disk mode from the cd or are you just running the app on the cd as when i fudged my bottcamp partition and lost 10gb or space i inserted the disk then booted up in disk mode and run it off the mac os x disk

i put in the cd, held option when i booted, chose the CD, and went to the topmenu and chose utilities, disk utility

Ok it looks like it works
but I have leopard and this disc is tiger.. It looks like it will partition but not to the full 149.1 gb and it says its gona delete everything

yeh thats what you do - so it didnt work for you hmm thats strange - i will get back to you tommorow when i find my disk and boot up into it to remember what it is you do. if i had to guss when you go into the disk utility there might be an option to revert or merge or something wh like that when you are by the partition options - then you just click first aid and repair permissions once you done to sort out any possible problems.

also out of interest you did try just running bootcamp again to merge the partitions together again as that may have the option to

...
now windows is up and installed and i was just playing crysis..though atitools isnt letting me overclock, i think ill live
it still plays basically just as nice, i turned down particles and i might do the same for water to give it a bewst in framerate...
