Nu Metal Examples
« on: January 01, 2008, 06:05:10 AM »
A few people confused when i made that thread so heres some example bands and songs:

Lostprophets - Kobrakai (Use of Pop/Hardcore Vocals as well as Turntables + Metal Style Guitar/Bass/Drum) Can be considered general alternative due to hardcore vocals but definitely nu metal enough to be labeled it

Limp Bizkit feat Les Claypool - Trust? (Rapping/Turntables/Dance elements + Metal Style Bass/Guitar/Drums) One of the nu metal pioneers

Papa Roach - Snakes (Use of turntables/rapping + Hip Hop Bass Riff + Metal Guitar/Drumming) Another Good nu metal band, from debut  - infest is there nu metal phase after that Jacoby Shaddix (singer) stated "Rapping wasn't cool any more"

KoRn - Y'all Want a Single (Use of Hip Hop style singing/hip hop style bass slapping + Metal elements) Note = KoRn are the founders of nu metal

SlipKnot - Duality (Use of Rap Vocals, turntables / slapped hip hop bass riffs is what defines slipknot within this genre) - just as slayer, metallica and megadeath were the big three of thrash metal, limp bizkit, korn and slipknot were the big three of Nu Metal

Linkin Park - Hit The Floor (Mike Shinoda's Rapping and Joe Hahns turntable mastery makes this band nu metal mega-stars)

There are many others but these bands are the big guys when it comes to metal, other popular bands such as modern thrash giants Machine Head have had nu metal albums such as Supercharger as nu metal holds its roots in thrash metal. It holds its roots in thrash rather then standard metal because of the diluted melody and strong rhythm emphasis common to thrash and nu metal as melody is not common in hip hop. Some nu metal bands DO have strong melody such as the lostprophets due the slight pop/punk emphasis in some of there vocals (kobrakai above features a melodic guitar hook in the intro which is to be noted)

Hope you all enjoyed this music lesson. Nu-Metal , not a derogatory term, but a hybrid of which creates fantastic music
