My 1929 Chevy Rat Rod Build Update
« on: June 03, 2008, 07:38:56 PM »
Some of you were interested in my project, so I thought I'd update you. Today was the last lab day in school so I had to take it out of there. I have the frame 90% done, just have to weld on some extra braces and gussets. Body still needs to be finally attached, its just sitting on there at the moment. And, basically, I have to mount the engine and all that stuff. At the moment its just a rolling chassis and body. Enjoy and discuss and comment. Thanks!

PAINT! EWWW, its a rat rod, which is basically a rough version of a hot rod (aka the poor mans hot rod) I'm probably just gonna leave it rust, or "if" I do paint it, it will be just flat black

Nice job with the chop and squat...  I wouldn't just let it rust, a coat of flat black would do it nicely.  Plan on heat wrapping the exhaust headers?  Whenever I think ratrod, I think flat black and wrapped headers...  It's a beautiful sight.  Just one problem with it....  Chevy body, er what's let of it...  LOL  And a Ford Engine....  Shame, shame...  :cry2:  The Rear end is fine since the Ford 9 is the best for your money.  I mean if you had said you were gonna drop in a Big-block ford, then I'd say go for it, actually thinking about it now, a Ford flathead V8 would be perfect...  I've been wanting to rebuild a flathead for a long time now...

looking good - i think it would look great in black and would be a shame to just let it rust after all the work you put in it

i am not responsible for what i do or my advice

i dont want to screw up your party but i wouldnt drive int hat even if you gave me a million euro's.

1: the frame where everything supports on aint good, to thin. (use pipes)
2: dont you huys have APK or MOT over there?
3: its to long, it will break after a few weeks (steel gets weak)
4: its so low traffic wont see it......accidents
5:rust

sorry, just telling the truth (even my teacher says it..he is a mecanic btw)

they're called rat rods and are designed to look old
1- It doesn't weigh much, therefore it won't break, i've seen ratters longer than that
2- not sure what you mean by those
3- steel isn't weak enough to bend with as little weight that'll be on this
4- Motorcycles are lower and they do just fine
5- its rustic

Keep it rusted.

Throw on some worn white walls, smoke the glass, and throw a big block in it.

worn white walls or new ones either way it will look good

he should paint it flat black and get a high gloss/peralesnt flame paint job
or get a basic flame job
