i'd really like to build my own desktop but i'm clueless...HELP!!

i wanna build my own desktop but i have no idea what i need....please help...i have a labtop but i'm not very happy with how it plays games and others....please HELP!!!!!

Video Card

Heatsink and fan for Processor
DVD Drive

its up to you every one has there own favorite for the parts, one of the most important things would be to make sure all of the components function together. if its your first i would suggest a bare bones so you don't have to do as much as a full build.

at least 250GB.

Just make sure that your Mobo and Processor are the same socket.  Most sites will say which processors each mobo supports.  I'd say pick your Mobo then go form there.  As far as which brand, I've exclusively used ASUS and I've noticed a decrease in quality, from their drivers anyway (graphical compatibilty issues, easy fix, took forever to figure out).
