I already purchased a antec 900 case a while back and want to make a gaming rig i already have a monitor and speakers as well my current(crappy) build is


nvidia geforce 4 mx420 graphics card

Creative labs sound blaster audigy sound card

hp dvd writer 200i optical drive

120 GB ultra DMA hard drive

512 MB DDR SDRAM memory

windows xp media center edition operating system
 What must i do to make a gaming rig for like crysis or gears of war

P.S i have a core 2 duo cpu

Lol first off, get more RAM, 512 is not good for any amount of gaming, try to get at least 1gig, 2 gigs would be decent. Wouldn't  know much on graphics card, but crysis leeches every resource in the computer lol, so good GPU AND CPU is needed, mainly GPU for that game. Mainly getting this from a friend who got crysis and noticed what he needed for him to play that game at MAX settings.

a 8800 is a nice graphics card and yes you need more ram, im running 4 gigs, but thats cuz vista is a ram . whats your core 2 duo clocked at?

Your Core 2  Duo needs to be clocked to atleast 2.4Ghz, 2Gb of Ram, 8800GT.

For Crysis you need Vista for DX10 and get a better video card. Geforce 4's are so outdated, if I'm correct they only support up to DX7. If you can afford it get an 8800 GTS they're around 300 US. If not newegg has a deal where you get an 8600 for 114 plus a $40 mail in rebate.

i haven't installed my cpu yet because my computer was made in 2002 and i need to buy a new motherboard to put the cpu in what do u recomend

asus, but make sure it fits the CPU

get a new motherboard either ASUS or GIGABYTE or EVGA. But make sure your mobo can support your processor, you'll probably need a motherboard that supports a 775 socket.

P.S can overclock my computer if so how ?

you over clock by fiddling in the byos (dont think i spelled that wright) you trick the computer in to thinking its faster than it is. usualy buying it a new pair of shoes or rubbing it with cheetah blood but i dont know how to truly over clock it

and i personally dont like the G15 to big had a hard time moving my fingers quickly across the keys and the stroke to push they key was much to far for my tastes go to your local computer store to try out some keyboards before you buy one from the internet

Yeah it's BIOS not byos lol. But yep he is correct you overclock everything in the BIOS, but sometimes you will need to adjust the voltage to the CPU if your going to overclock.

btw, change your mobo to ddr2 ram, as its alot cheaper and much faster, once you done that, get either 2gb or 4gb (a 2gb kit cost around £25 now)

i use the bios but for some simpler method nvidia control panel comes with all nividia cards preinstalled in windows

If your not experienced with overclocking don't experiment with settings because you can fry your pc, but for starters you enter the bios usually by pressing F10 when your PC turns on, if thats not the key refer to your motherboard instruction manual. When you get into the BIOS go to the CPU multiplier(might not be the case for your BIOS, it really differs if you have different types of BIOS) then after that I would recommend setting the multiplier to 3 above what it was set on, and see how far you can push your machine, but be careful you will need adequate cooling if you want to overclock because when the processors are overclocked they run hotter than normal, if you have liquid cooling that shouldn't really be a problem though.
