Tracking head motion for the crosshairs for most FPS is a challange. For this we will need to use optics to create a high and low resistence. this is accomplished with very few componants. The only issue is range the optics will need to be fairly close I think we can fix this by using better IR leds in an array.

Here is the proof of concep of head tracking motion..

Here is the diagram for wiring.

Setting up the optics is sooooo simple very cheap to make just need to order some parts from mouser.

Here is the parts
1: Quantity 2 of TSL262R-LF

Here is how I have the test POC set up..

After seeing how you could aim with the IR I had a little idea no clue it would work or anything but it might

Kind of like the wii zapper but for the xbox
(this was quickly thrown together in paint)

getting old is mandatory growing up is optional.

just a quick question...

are you doing these "disabled person friendly" mods for some reason? other then helping people, has someone specifically asked you for help?

i used to work with the handicap, and worked with a person whom was paralized from the neck down... i can give some ideas when i get a chance.

right now im busy working on some wii's and probably going to buy a wii.

also to note to people...

****** THE FARTHER THE SENSORS ARE APART FROM EACHOTHER THE MORE ACCURATE YOUR MOVEMENTS ARE  *****
also distance would decrease the pickup of the sensors... less you plan on making this into a cap or something similar...

*********EDIT**********
*** ANOTHER NOTE ***

wouldnt it be easier to just use a tilt sensor????

something like this (EXAMPLE)
http://www.mouser.com/search/ProductDetail.aspx?qs=TPGbLG2VLA%252bDYEEkT2cysQ%3d%3d

also, maybe a vibration sensor as an action button?
(EXAMPLE) vibration = jump in halo....
you could even use multitude of angles for different things

HEAD MOVEMENT    ---   GAME ACTION

Look up                  ---       Look up
Look Down              ---       Look down
Tilt head to left        ---      reload
Tilt head right           ---     Hit
shake head hard      ---    switch weapons  (uses vibration sensor)

also there are many other types of position sensors that you can use, thus having multiple people in the room... wouldnt effect your IR signals cause you wouldnt have any...

you could essentially make a 4 player game..

of course if i were to see 4 people all shaking their heads weirdly i would be like WTF.....

-----

there are many sensors out there with different resistances and different angles, it wouldnt be too hard to find the ones that are right (reading the specs of the angles and resistances they have)

Hey Cyber, A Friend Of Mine Lost His Right Hand In A Car Accident 4 Years Ago. Currently, He Can Play With The Xbox 360 Steering Wheel, Only Using His Feet. Which In My Opinion Is Amazing.
I Would Love To Make Him One Of These For A Birthday Present Or Just A Nice Gift.
If You Could Write A Tutorial On This It Would Be Great! He Would Absolutely Love It!

Thanks

Cheers For The Sig Indy! :)

hmm, not to sound like an idiot or make a joke, you could try using some other parts besides the head, for instance the mouth. Of course it would be akward so you can try to use someone's mouth as if they were pressing space on a keyboard, just a random thought floating by that I thought can actually help out, so it ain't a joke and I hope not to hear people calling me an ahole or something :)

yo dude why are you usings phototransistors should u not be using photoresistors instead seeing as how the analogs use resistance to operate

Hmm I'm suprised you haven't asked for a complete VR arcade from any game and just gut it out to see what you would need to make this work, the POC told me enough heh.

Hey cyber have you tried using the same IR leds like the ones in the Wii remote and like somehow using the sensorbar I mean it would seem like it might work, Oh and for that sensor for vibration why not use the accleromter/ like that one you did for the ds... heh
oh an if someone already said this sorry I'm on my sidekick and can't see much of what was said. Hey cyber next time you on msn lets talk more about this.

For the awesome Sigs Thanks goes to: Blazinkaos, Chef Boyardee

Shweet  :hifive:

I think things like this could be used by alot of people, not just ones with disabilities :). If I had a 360 I'd probably do this :)
