[Guide] Dark_AleX's TimeMachine 0.1
« on: February 15, 2008, 05:51:22 PM »
Important!: Never use DevHook anywhere near TimeMachine, as we are seeing more and more unrecoverable bricks/IDStorage loss due to a conflict between DevHook and TimeMachine.

TimeMachine 0.1 allows a PSP to run an older Firmware version, regardless of it's current firmware, or whether it's internal flash is even working.

It boots the IPL (Initial Program Loader) and Firmware from the Memory Stick, as with Pandora and Despertar del Cementario

Firmware Compatibility List:

PSP-20XX - (Slim):
 - 1.50 (+ 3.40, Hybrid Kernel)
 - 3.60 M33

PSP-10XX - (Phat):
 - 1.50
 - 3.40 OE

Default Boot Button Configuration

Provided you are using a Pandora's Battery, and have installed the TimeMachien IPL and firmware/s, you may, by default, launch each by holding the following buttons before and inserting the Pandora's Battery, and holding said button until the firmware loads.

(These combinations can be changed in ms0:/TM/config.txt, see ms0:/TM/config_readme.txt for important notes on changing button configurations.)

Note: You do not have to install all of these.

1.50 - Cross (X)

1.50 (+ 3.40 Hybrid Kernel) - Circle (O)

3.40 OE - Triangle (/\)

3.60 M33 - Square ([])

Pandora/Despertar del Cementario* - D-Pad Up (^)

Boot normally to installed firmware - Don't hold any button

*Pandora/Despertar del Cementario must be installed separately. See my guide here.

Setting up Dark_AleX's TimeMachine 0.1

First, obtain:
 - Dark_AleX's TimeMachine 0.1
 - Sony 1.50 Official Firmware Update. This is not necessary for installing 3.60 M33.
 - Sony 3.40 Official Firmware Update. This is not necessary for installing plain 1.50, or 3.60 M33
 - 3.60 Firmware 360.PSAR. If you do not have access to a PSP with 3.60 M33 installed, you must download a 360.PSAR file, which is illegal to distribute. This is not necessary for installing plain 1.50 or 3.40 OE. See the next section, Creating 360.PSAR on creating this file.
 - Pandora's Battery 'msipl.bin'*
 - A 'Memory Stick PRO Duo' Memory Stick, this is necessary for reading speed.

*This must be generated seperately. See my guide here.

1. Connect the Memory Stick to the computer via PSP, or Memory Card Reader, then open 'timemachine_0.1.rar' from the download above, and copy the folder 'TIMEMACHINE' to 'ms0:/PSP/GAME/'.

2. Copy the desired Sony Official Firmware Update files to ms0:/ (the root of the Memory Stick), renaming as follows:
  1.50 Update - Rename to '150.PBP'
  3.40 Update - Rename to '340.PBP'

Also place '360.PSAR' here if you wish to install 1.50 (+ 3.40 Hybrid Kernel) or 3.60 M33.
See the next section, Creating 360.PSAR on creating this file.

Place 'msipl.bin' at the root of your memory stick.

3. Exit USB (put the Memory Stick back in the PSP if using a Card Reader), and scroll to Game -> Memory Stick -> 'Time Machine', and press Cross (X).

In the Menu, use D-Pad Up/Down to scroll Up and Down, and Cross (X) to select an option.

4. Select option 2, 'Convert  Pandora/DC1-DC4 ipl into TM format', then press Cross (X) to return to the Main Menu, then select option 1, 'Install iplloader on PSP MS boot sector', then press Cross (X) to return to the Main Menu.

5. Install the desired Firmwares to the Memory Stick with options 3,4,5,6.

Option 3 - Install 1.50 (PHAT) Install 1.50 Firmware. You must be using a PSP-10XX (Phat) and have 150.PBP at the root of your Memory Stick.

Option 4 - Install 1.50 with 3.40 hw modules (PHAT&SLIM) Install 1.50 (+ 3.40 Hybrid Kernel) Firmware. You must have 150.PBP and 340.PBP at the root of your Memory Stick, PSP-20XX (Slim) users must also have 360.PSAR at the root of their Memory Stick.

Option 5 - Install 3.40 OE (PHAT) You must be using a PSP-10XX (Phat) and have 150.PBP and 340.PBP at the root of your Memory Stick.

Option 6 - Install 3.60 M33 (SLIM) You must be using a PSP-20XX (Slim) and have 360.PSAR at the root of your Memory Stick.

Wait until 'Press X to return to main menu' appears on your screen, then press Cross (X) to return to the Main Menu.

6. Select option 7, 'Exit' to quit the program.

7. When the XMB reloads, hold the Power button up until your PSP powers off. Remove the battery cover and battery.

8. See Default Boot Button Configuration (Above) on which button to hold to boot the desired Firmware, and, holding that button, insert your Pandora's Battery. Hold the button until 'Sony Computer Entertainment' appears.

9. Go through the setup process.

Creating 360.PSAR

First, obtain:
 - Dark_AleX's TimeMachine 0.1
 - A PSP with 3.60 M33 Firmware installed.

1. Connect the Memory Stick to the computer via PSP, or Memory Card Reader, then open 'timemachine_0.1.rar' from the download above, and copy the folder '360DUMPER' to 'ms0:/PSP/GAME/'.

2. Exit USB (put the Memory Stick back in the PSP if using a Card Reader), and scroll to Game -> Memory Stick -> '3.60 Dumper', and press Cross (X).

3. When 'Press X to start dumping.' appears, press Cross (X).
