Need help with Linux!!!

hello, i am new to the ipod moding forums, but anyway, i need some help installing linux on my ipod nano v 1.1.2. i plug my ipod in, and my comp detects it, but when i run the installer, it seems like it disconnects it, because the ipod goes to the home screen, and the installer says 'no ipod detected'. please help
