Modding the TI-84 Plus Graphing Calculator (GOT IT DONE!!)
« on: March 08, 2008, 07:57:15 AM »
Hey, the certain electronics can have backlights, why not a Graphing Calculator!

I want to install LED's somewhere near the screen. I just want to put LED's in the corners that light up when the calculator is on. I have taken apart the calculator just now. Now I need to figure out how to wire the LED's and if using LED's would even work. Seeing that there is 6V of power from the batteries, im sure it would work somehow.

I will be happy to upload pics of the board if you guys can help me..lol

I have the silver edition calculator so its not clear. If you guys have any thoughts or comments, please post them. Thanks!

okay it will be simpler and just as effective to add a front light, basically you need a square piece of perspex (clear) the same size as your screen, then put a protective film over it, such as the ones you buy for a psp's and this will catch light from leds you put on the side of the perspex.

to power the led's you can use the battery but you will need to use a resister and a switch which will make them on whenever the switch is on.

yeah i was gonna move this to other but its gone

and i did my calc as well with a tilt switch for EXE and a front light BUT i didn't know about the perspex/protector thing so it sucked :P

also penguin the batteries are in there all the time so if you leech direct of the battery then you will always have the leds on, hence the switch

hey, does the LED's take a lot of power? cuz the low batteries thing pops up now since i installed the LED's. Im using 10 LED's now btw. so if any of you know if it effects the calculator or not, let me know, thanks!

leds are usually the difference between 3 hours and 2hours and 59 min with 56 secs.

you probably just wired something weird.

Nice.

How long did it take?
Also, is the TI-86 calc good? My dad bought it like 8 years ago or something for $150+
having a higher post count doesn't earn respect in the forums, quality posts do.

thanks,
