Need some help with resistors!
« on: April 04, 2008, 05:49:03 PM »
Hi guys, I am djnoor xD

Well I want to do a mod on my PSP and add like 5 LEDs

But I really don't know which/how many resistors I should put and also how many Ohms and stuff.
So it would be great if someone can explain it to me or give me a link to somewhere I can read about this.

Are these resistors good? I read somewhere i needed 10 Ohms( please confirm that): http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=170014931713&ssPageName=MERC_VI_RCRX_Pr4_PcY_BIN_Stores_IT&refitem=170152906267&itemcount=4&refwidgetloc=active_view_item&usedrule1=CrossSell_LogicX&refwidgettype=cross_promot_widget

Well, first you will need to know a little about electronics...

Voltage:
https://www.acidmods.com/forum/index.php?topic=13469.0

Wattage:
https://www.acidmods.com/forum/index.php?topic=13471.0

Ohms Law:
https://www.acidmods.com/forum/index.php?topic=13442.0

After Reading these (Other than the fact that I can't find the one on Ohms I wrote...) you should have at least the rudimentary understanding to move on to calculating resistors...

All you need to know about resistors and calculating them:
https://www.acidmods.com/forum/index.php?topic=13456.0

All of these tuts were in the Tutorial section under General Modding & Electronics section...

Thanks for the info T3K, sorry noob here ^.^

Ok I just bought these SMDs SMDs I bought

And I want to wire like 5 of them ( 2 in triggers, 2 in Pads, and 1 in the UMD door) what would be the best way to wire them? In series or in parrallel? And for the resistors, if i use blue SMDs, will I have to buy 80 ohms?

Thanks alot!

In series you must calculate (Add all components voltage drop together to find this) the total voltage drop (This is the Voltage needed to run the components) across all the components (I.e LEDs), this will change the resistor needed.  While in parallel (With all the same components) the resistor would be the same as the calculated Ohms needed for just one component.  The simpler way, as you can see, is to wire in parallel.

Thx for the info T3K, I also wanted to know what are the different spots that I can plug LEDs on my PSP? And also, if I wire the LEDs in parrallel, do I only need 1 resistor? and do I put it before or after the LEDs? I will post pics If you don't understand this.

Thx again

djnoor

Can anyone please answer?

Thanks

djnoor

As /\/\/\/ that beaing the resitor. and i didnt understand the other question

*bump dont double post edit ur first one :victory:

If you are using all the same LEDs (all the same color) then only one Resistor is needed, and the resistor can be placed anywhere in the circuit, before or after, it doesn't matter, most times as luke showed it is before the components, this is done not because it is needed, but because of a matter of sense, but in the end no matter where it is it will still do the same job.

All right thanks for the info guys, but I am willing to put them in parrallel so only 1 resistor right?
Ok second question, I did the maths to calculate what resistor was needed and got at 80 Ohm, my science teacher confirmed it, but when I go on ledcalc.com, when I put 1 LED it says the right amount ( 82 Ohm ) but when I put 5 it says 18 Ohm resistor...Is that a mistake from the website? Because from wha I know when you wire stuff in parrallel it's not supposed to change the Resistor...correct me if i am wrong.
So wright now im doing some searches on the internet to see if I can find an 80 Ohm resistor, and i am also tryin to understand the % and the Wattage needed...If anyone can resume me those two things it would be very helpful and I will find the resistor i want xD

Thanks alot for all your help!

djnoor

EDIT: I found some 82 Ohm resistors, just need some help to see wich ones are better, remember I want to wire 5 blue LEDs 0603 in parrallel:

Resistors 1

Resistors 2 I think these are interesting, seeing there are 100.

Resistors 3

Resistors 4
