PsP Jewel Spinner?
« on: April 26, 2008, 12:38:01 AM »
I am sure this topic has already come up before but since I just got into the modding scene about a week ago I don't know all the cool stuff yet.I am getting ready to completely deck out my PSP with some cool mods so I was looking at jewels and I thought what would be cooler then a spinning jewel?

So has someone done it? Can you buy them? Is it possible? If so can you still have your umd drive installed?

Thanks ahead of time for the answer.

I would think it would look really cool if it spun slower, with a spiral jewel and leds. :victory:

mmm i dont know if yo can make it slower you would need some type of motor and a speed controler...or something...seems complicated

Couldn't you just add a more resistant resistor?

yes resistor would slow it down, but a potentiometer (or how eva u spell it) whould let you vary the speed the fan making it go fast slow of depending on wat size u use you could also make it switch off.

you can simply add the fan mod and remove the fan and put the logo on it and cut the door accordingly

I read some where that the way to do this is to glue the psp jewel to a piece of plastic then glue the plastic to the umd drive motor so then when it spins the umd it spins the jewel. That sound right?

Didn't anyone notice this at first?, I did.  I'm guessing that's how he did it, Its really simple

yeah that could possibly work but ur going to have to figure out how to make sure it wont jam when its moving cuz it could possibly get stuck on the back case so better think bout that..mistakes happen especially if u drop then u got real problems fixing it

omg yall dont know how to do this? its so simple. all you do is hook it to a powersource on th epsp just like you will do on the tigger mod. but instead of leds he used a small computer fan. black and gray wires! ITS A FAN INSIDE THE PSP WITH THE LOGO ON IT! so simple. hope this helps yall

Ok the way to do this would be to use a 5 volt CPU fan for cooling the old pentium cpu they are only 2 to 3 dollars brand new.

Then if you take a 555 ic timer to generate a square wave you by adjusting the on time versus the off time you could control the speed precisely and set any speed you want.

Or you could take the output from AcidMods LED flasher control run it through a transistor with an RC network to adjust the speed and the spining logo would be reactive to your music !

How cool would that be. Or a very simple program for an 8 pin PIC cpu that would let you adjust the speed with some of the home key combinations.

What do you want, I can draw it up for you ?

I like the PIC idea, I might attempt it some time this week. I've got a bunch of 5 volt PC fans lying around too
