PSP Slim now shipping with TA-088 motherboard
« on: May 17, 2008, 03:04:10 PM »
Not sure if it's already known but I did a Google search and found nothing.

I bought a PSP Slim today and took it apart about 10 minutes after unboxing it. :w00t:
I found that inside is a TA-88 motherboard. I haven't looked compared it to other motherboards and don't know how different the layout is, but I saw that the metal shielding on the front is now larger and soldered directly to the board. Also, although I'm not sure if it's specific to these new models or if Sony started doing it a while ago, but on my last Slim the UMD drive had a plastic piece in the shape of a UMD to help guide the disc into place. This has now been replaced by two small plastic pieces.

Back of TA-088 motherboard:

Haven't tried it yet, but most likely these motherboards can still have CFW installed.

Nemesis: Not having small thumbnail previews just makes life easier lol :)

iam7805: Ok, I know that now haha. On other forums I've gone on I've done it for the 56k'ers.

No TA-087 as far as I know. There's TA-085, TA-085 v2, and now TA-088. Most likely TA-087 was under development but never released. Of course, there's also no TA-086 as this is a PSP Phat board (kinda neat that the PSP Slim development had been happening for so long).

Correct. However, if you already have a battery and memory stick made they will work.

Because the original Pandora came out just before the slim did, Sony couldn't change every motherboard without costing themselves millions of dollars. So, they just rolled with it. They came up with the only solution without screwing themselves up the butt, and only took away the ability to make Pandora on the newer slims, since if they took away the service mode, they couldn't refurbish them easily.

You can hard mod one if your good at soldering, otherwise your out of luck. It doesn't really change anything though. Even if the PSP Slim mobo did allow for creating the battery, you would still need CFW to do it, and in this case, you wouldn't. :P

Please, keep creation of Pandora's and MMS's in the right forum, and read before asking questions.

1. This mobo cannot CREATE Pandora's (MMS's aswell???)
2. This mobo can be used with a Pandora and MMS to get onto CFW
3. Other than that, it seems this slim mobo is exactly the same, apart from the heatsink/sheilding
