need help

ok well my dad like got a virus on his laptop >.>
wen he gets it all booted up after a couple of seconds a thing pops up and sais the configuration of the harddisk or w/e has failed and the computer has to restart. i found this cd that has xp on it and i tried to install it but the comp shuts off before i can do it. (cant boot from disk either)
then i tried to run it on my computer (i want to format my comp) and it wouldnt let me install it cuz its like service pack one and i got service pack 3 >.>. btw i need help on formatting my pc lol. but do u know wut is wrong wit my dads laptop

On his laptop, try to boot into safe mode and use some anti virus program to scan for viruses. Use CCleaner to clean out temporary files, cookies, and other junk. On your computer, Just put in disk. Then boot from disk. Choose to format your hard drive. Then install. It is supposed to work.

i tried booting from safe mode but a msg still comes up and gives me like 50 seconds before it shuts off
and wen i boot from the disk it doesnt make a difference to anything

hey guys ill keep messin with it but if you got any idea i would be forever gratfull lol, my mom said she would pay me if i fix it and the money would be good for cybers auction 2morrow lol

EDIT: ok well i think i got it to work
i messed with the BIOS and got it to boot from the cd, i going to reinstall. i will tell wut happened wen im done

i hate it wen i post something and i figure it out myself, makes me feel like an idoit
