l0rdnic0 for hire???
« on: May 30, 2008, 08:47:32 AM »
OK people I need your input, if you have been following the new Wiredinput shop stuff you might have heard that I will be performing the mod service at Kingmike_os’s shop. Truth be told I have my concerns about this and I wanted to get everyone’s input.
So AcidMods has held a “Modder for Hire” section for several months now and I can remember a time when I knew about it before it was officially announced. I thought about signing up, but decided not to because of concerns I have. Many aren’t worth listing but one is, TIME. You see I normally work 10 hour days and have a 2 hour and 40 min commute (round trip), A wife and two kids (one a three year old). So time during the week to mod is limited to about an hour or two. Most of my mod time gets dedicate one day of the weekend, though some weeks I get more time then others

The good news is I have a fully stocked work bench with solder stations and many  professional tools and hi end irons including things like a drill press, vices, helping hands, professional grade meters and testers, Pic Programmer, multiple types and varieties of solder, wire, components and parts. Soon I’ll buy a scope and teach myself how to use that too. I would say enough to make some people drool. I come from a professional background, I have worked at a Fortune 500 company for 14 years. I possess interpersonal skills when it comes to communication to business partners and vendors alike so I'll have zero issues with communicating with customers and try and answer any questions people my have.

So I have the tools and in my own opinion I have the skill and drive to complete most mods out there, though my exploits are primarily with the PSP Slim, I do have other skills!

I’m constantly tinkering with new ideas and Cyber is always pinging me with new ones so you never know when I come up with something new. At the moment I’m working on a multi colored sound reactive led mod with dimming and something else small. I guess what I’m saying here is, as I do new mods and test them I would make them available in the store.

So what do you think, do you even care, would you find a need of my services?

Seriously tell me!!

Sticky topic for only a few days!!!!! :victory:

Personally I dont know anyone else I would trust to mod my PSP =D

And on behalf of everyone here on AM (If they hold my view ) then im sure time wouldnt matter as the quality would be unmatchable. But thats jsut me.

although shipping would cost a lot =\ and youd probably be the most expensive hoe on AM but I think the quality and the pioneering mods would make up for it further =P

Also if you need psps to test you could use mine to install :3

I think you should go ahead and do it, but have a stock system, as in people can't "buy" your service until you are ready to do so, where you would add stock to the shop.

Wait, wait...  Who are you?  I mean really...  Where's your experience?  What have you done?  Why should I trust you?  Where are my pants?  Why do I hear a ringing in my ears?  All these questions must be answered before I can say yes to you being a modder for hire!

It's all up to you...doing free mods wouldn't hurt as long as supplies are paid for and shipping etc...but not many people do that, lmao.  CwN's right as well, you should spend time with your kids...I don't spend much time w/ my family, but I'm a teen...who does that anyway?  Whichever you decide to do will be the right choice since there is no wrong answer to this.

I think Bud is right. No beard, no modding. You're DONE!
Hahaha I DEFINITELY think you should be a modder for hire!!But, like RA1N said, only do it in your free time. And make sure people know that depending on the queue, theirs may take a long time to complete. Just make sure they know that so they don't flip out on you.
Good Luck!

i think you need to think about yourself on this one cause only a few people on here probly really know you and care and the rest doesnt matter if its to much and you have to little time then maybe you shouldnt. i dont think it would out pay your job or anything and that little extra time maybe needs to go to your kids plus there is that old saying feed a man a fish feed him for a day.....

Don't do it man, if people are going to get into mods then they should learn on there own. Also if you have little time at home like 2 hours to mod a collection of psps your going to have many problems in your life and stress. Not only that but it will limit your ability to produce new mods for use that await them.

the cool thing about modders for hire is you can decline clients until you want them

but srsly dont because no one else will get to lol :D

just kidding, tis a good way to keep your moddings skills honed....

but i can personally warn off marioparty53, seriously 4 times in a row, asked me to stuff, doesn't get back to me....so i ask 4 weeks later....and "oh, i dont have time atm"

so it has its ups and downs but its rewarding to help people that trust you enough :D

I dont care, i remember when f00 was a MFH, we would get loads of n00bs saying "Ow pweese mistar f00, mod mah Poospe for 20 engalish pownds pleaze"

If you want to do it, then cool, but i like your mods because no one has them, i would say work on making really good tuts, teach people to mod, dont do it for them.

And you should spend time with your 1st family more than your 2nd, as theyre the ones that need you more, the ones that want you to be there. Spend time with your kids, not the internet and other peoples PSP's.

Its obviously your choice, and greatly helps people who can't pull off any sweet mods if you become a modder for hire.  But the more time you work on other people's psps, the less time you have to enjoy working on your own mods, modding your family, or just relaxing.  Unless your are totally strapped for cash, I wouldn't trade anything for those few hours you do have.  One day you might kick yourself in the ass when one of your kids asked for you to take them to a baseball game or something else and you have to respond "Sorry, I am loaded down with stuff I have to do".   Since it wouldn't be right to take smoeone's money and not to the job.
Obviously this is coming from someone who had a busy dad =P.  But to each his own.
