would it be safe..?
« on: June 04, 2008, 02:18:45 PM »
i finaly got my 3mm leds from tmandt lol
and i thought im putting in a plexi glass window on my pc soon, could i just add some leds lol?
i found this led that was already on the main board and i put the leds contacts on its contacts and the led lights great and the power of the led on the baord is still bright
it said power led on it and it only comes on wen the pc is on, so i figure it wouldt be that bad if i just  soldered it on there?
would this a good idea or is there a chance of something bad happining?

I would not recomend 3mm LEDs in a computer. Use a cold cathode instead. http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16800888026
It is better to use a resistor and wire it up to a molex connector if you really want to use those 3mms.

dont solder onto a Mobo for gods sake, there are so many kits, buy a Cold Cathode kit.

We solder to the mobo in more closed devices as thats the only way  to go, PC Modding is massive, and PC's are built for it.
