problem with a ps3
« on: August 22, 2008, 12:02:57 PM »
i got a ps3 from a friend to look at that has no video or sound. the ps3 turns on and recognizes discs(all lights come on) but nothing else. ive tried everything i know to do short of taking it apart. im still trying to get him to find out if he has a factory warranty but i dont think he does. does any1 know if there are any fuses on the motherboard that may have blown? ill prolly have to end up usin my multimeter to test all the components but he said this happened after he plugged it in one day and it caused his breaker to trip. im stumped atm.

Uhm, try that thing where you hold the PS button on the controller for like 5 seconds as it starts up. It's supposed to reset the video settings to match your tv. If they're wrong, you've got no video or anything. That's the thing about PS3. You can't just plug it into a tv second hand and expect it to work flawlessly, you need to set the video settings up first.

So try that and then tell us what happened.

*Sigh*

Its the Power Button on the console, not the PS Button on the Sixaxis/DS3.

Hold The Power Button on the front of the console until it beeps 3 times, this will reset the PS3's Video and Audio settings, making it search for new outputs.

Well then the GPU has an error, send it to Sony, they'll fix it.

thats what i thought. i talked to a guy at sony that said it would cost about 150 to fix so ill prolly just tell him to send it in. he wanted me to fix it but to do that id have to buy a motherboard and drive controller which btw you cant find anywhere.
