Weird sounds from psp while charger pluged
« on: June 26, 2008, 12:45:08 PM »
Hi ppl i was just putting some xmb themes in my psp when i plugged in the charger cuz the psps battery was low my psp was on 1st level of brightness and i heard some strange high pitched sound coming from it  ( its very low and is hard to hear normally unless u place ur ear near the psp) and i noticed that the sound only comes at 1st and 2nd brightness levels ad only when a charger is plugged in and the pitch of the sound is diferent at those brightness levels.... i wanna know if its normal or some problem please help

Thanx and by the way its a psp phat ta-079.

My old phat used to do that as well. It drove me nuts when I was charging it at night and playing it.

it is just the noise because the battery is charging/using power. do you use your psp a lot, if you do do you use the same battery? because that can sometimes cause it to continue a long time after you have bought your psp.

all electronics give off that kind of noise, it pees me off because my computer monitor does it when i turn it off, but im the only one who can hear it other than my bro, but that is all about pitch and age so i wont go into that.

energy flowing through the electronic that isnt being used.

basically if you can hear that noise you have perfect hearing.

Well Done!

actually adults can't hear it, my friend has it as a ring tone and would turn it on and walk right past the teacher and she wouldn't be able to hear

hmmm thats a cool thing that adults cant hear.... here is the link to that some explanations for that i found http://www.nytimes.com/2006/06/12/technology/12ring.html
but anyways is there a way to get rid of that sound or is it just as it is??? i know it kinda decreases when we turn the brightness up..

that is what i said!

p.s. my bro is 12

if you really want me to explain then i will.

when you are about 3 years old your hearing is the best that it can be, as you grow older it deterierates very slowly, unnoticably infact. with age as your hearing becomes worse you are unable to hear higher pitched noises.

if you can hear high pitched noises coming from your electronics it is because of these two reasons:
1) you are quite young, and you have good hearing.
2) the electronic isnt using all of the power / energy / electricity that is being sent to it, this causes a high pitced squealing noise.

i hope you see that is what i said but a much simpler version on my other post.

and no you cant get rid of it unless you grow older in about 5 mins or damage your hearing, which i dont think you want to do.

Thanks

we tested this in science... 37% of adults can hear it and the rest cant...

The back light in the PSP is Electro luminescence.

This requires a high voltage to activate it.
The brighter the back light the higher the voltage.

In the inverter circuit that converts the battery voltage to the voltage needed there is a transformer.
Granted it is very very small. But it still has wire windings.

It the coating that is put on the transformer did not coat the wires completely there may be several that have
a small amount of room to move. The conversion process is at a very high frequency and sometimes the wires will vibrate creating a high pitched sound.

I had a tv that had the problem and I finally sold it because it drove me nuts. It was like someone scratching their fingernails down a chalkboard
