mono sound, can it be fixed?

This being my second ds lite (the 1st one was black and the henge broke

i haven't had it very long maby since christmas, to the point
the little speakers in the DS lite work perfectly, But when you plug in headphones Only the left side works, i have searched and belive i am the only one with this problem.
the only thing i think may have caused it was the X-mini speaker, this speaker although amazing has a bad wire (of which i have replaced) and i think it shorted something in my ds out.
Is this problem fixable without purchasing a new ds?

are you sure it's not just the headphones? I have had that problem so many times with some many lousy cheap headphones.

its not the headphones because i have plugged it into several stereo systems and only the left channel comes in, i also haven't tried to mod it in any way, yet.
