I'll think about it. And yeah...I'm thinking in the end I would've spent like $300ish but the actual project like like $250. Hahah. It's going to be fun doing this though, I just wish I could start now.

If you're looking for cheap shells, DealExtreme has them for about 15 dollars each, give or take a few bucks. I just got this one recently.

They have the solid colors for a bit cheaper. And if you desire to have less thickness, I think you should find a way to get rid of the GBA slot device if it's possible.

Well good luck with the project, I'm all for it. I doubt it will work, because desire alone doesn't do it (unless you are the Zohan), you need skill aswell. If you don't find every single lead and match them with whatever each one happens to connect to, you will seriously have screwed yourself out of a good ds lite you could've just modded, or maybe made bigger or something. =P

If you can pull this off you would by far have the most complex and hardest mod on this entire website. Have you seen what the ds motherboard looks like cut? I don't think you know how much work this is. Also I dont know enough about general electronics but the distance of the wire might actually make a difference but I dont think an extra inch or two will affect it too much but I have no idea. If you need broken shells I have plenty for you. You can have as many as you like. But for the final design if you ever get that far. since you are putting so much work into it I would go with CNC cut case possibly. It would cost quite a bit more I think it would be worth it. You wouldn't want to spend that much time and effort on it and have it look stupid. Good luck and if you need anything just ask.

well, I doubt this can be pulled off (sorry kicks lol) This kind of mod is really hard, Ben Heck cuts mobos, but Its takes him awhile to do, and its on simpler systems

I cut a mobo into 2 and resoldered them, But ti took like 30 mins to get 3 traces back, and to stay

rocky is right, the length of some of the traces is something you cannot change. like ram for example.
i wish you all the best of luck on this, but honestly i see my insane single screen DS idea working before this does =/

I can see how hard this is gonna be but alien x need to quit being so negative, like he always is. If you need some help on parts I might be able to get you some, or quite possibly a couple full dslites.

Benheck admits to not being the greatest solderer of all times. It should be possible to do, but only if you can solder like a God.

Can't wait to see this mod finished. Nice change from all the PSP mods.

Thanks for the feedback guys, and if anyone wants to donate parts, PM me. BUT, I won't be able to start for a while, so don't be toooo anxious to see me start. Lol.

Worst case scenario? I can't extend traces or get it working or something and it's impossible. IF that's the case, I've got a backup idea that is 100% possible. So, either way you're seeing an awesome mod come out of this.

Alright this might help a little I have taken a motherboard and cut its layers apart. The DS lite has 4 layers to its motherboard. As you can see in this picture it has 2 inside layers and one on the outside on each side totaling 4.

The part I cut away you can see the traces running up the motherboard and across. On the top it has one solid ground that I cut away and the bottom is the same. It would help if their was an easier way to take apart the board than cut it.

Anyone know what causes the DSL to go to sleep when the lid is closed? Is it a switch or what?

Its a magnetic switch. The speakers set it off. In the middle of the abxy buttons is where you will find it

Edit: Just opened up my Gold Zelda PH DSL to take a look at that switch. How's it work? It puts it in sleep mode when a magnet(speaker) is held over it? Is that it?

yes kicks, thats exactly it
it works like a normal switch but with a magnet
so if you replace it with a real switch youd be able to control sleep mode

If anyone cares, I'm still trying to find me a working DSL or broken but fixable or something to work on. Money and time are getting tighter though with school coming up...
