Did I do this right?
Edit: Good. That was basically my first time soldering. My LEDs will be here in a few days so I'll put up pics then.

wilson theres a tutorial sticked its at the top of this forum and if your just doing the leds you have to removed the old one and put a new one by melting those 2 points in that picture up there

Dont quote me on this but i bet you can press the led against the contacts and itll still light up. So for example, if you turn the controller on, assuming itll still power on, you an press a led against the upper left set of contacts for player 1, upper right player 2 etc. Then you'll know nothing is damaged and its ready for a new led. Post results when youre dont, id liek to see. its something id look into. I used to do this with cell phone leds back when switching those were cool. Remember the 90s kids

Even if there were no leds, the controller would still work. Yes you can just press it up against it, assuming the contacts are nice and flat. Oh, and point of advice, the little white dot that's by either of the 2 led contacts is the + side.

The dot indicates where the Cathode goes, that's the Negative side of the LED.

Uhm, YES it matters. If it's the wrong way, the leds won't light up. Have you ever used leds before?

It would matter if you put the leds on the wrong way round..

Since these controllers run on DC voltage, the placement of the polarity of componants is very important, and would be a main problem in why a circuit doesn't work for one reason or another.

IF these controllers ran on AC (Which they wouldn't for many reasons, one being because it isn't as safe) then polarity placement wouldn't be much of a problem..

but anyway back to why..

Led's - Light emitting DIODES , will only allow current to pass one way through them, they will not light up if they are the wrong way round, this is due to the nature of a diode - it will allow current to pass in one direction, and it will BLOCK the current in the other direction, which is bad news for a wrong-way-round led..

I'm not sure what color yet. But I'm going to paint the case (maybe red or blue). I ordered some white and red LEDs for it. Anyways, What I'm going to try is putting the no chip rapid fire mod and the custom colors together. I just have to wait until the mod comes out for the new wireless boards.

Hmm idk i just solder the leds on and they work. So unless im lucky all the time..
How do you tell wat side is positive on the led so i kno and not make this mistake.

hmm im going to be doing this mod once my parts arrive, if you do it quick enough can you use the solder that was already there from the stock leds to hold the new leds on? i dont have a desoldering bulb is there anything i could use besides those?

Um yea i think there may be enough. If you have a nice thin tip it should work..and use a soldering gun.

Yeah I'm done now, no mess ups! Anyways, that was my first time soldering or desoldering anything. Yes you can use the solder already there, but you might need some extra. (I did). It's not that hard if you take your time and do a quality job.

I hope to add more later. Maybe something like lighting up A,Y,X,B buttons.

Yeah I was worried that it wouldn't turn out but it did. I used dupli-color for vinyl. Now when I get another controller I'm gonna prime and sand it and do all the extra stuff.

When you did it did you just solder them on or did u kno wat is positive and the negative end of the LED cuz i dnt i been told i believe on this forum u have to have it right from wat i heard...

Yes it matters very much which way you put them. I looked at a chart (somewhere on these forums.)
I think you just got really lucky.

There should be a mark on the back of the 0603. The side it's closest to is the +.

I just finished up an rf board and controller for a friend today. His controller is the bottom left one.

I ordered ultraviolet 0603s today. I'm going to do my Elite and controller. I'm a blue guy, but my wife likes purple, so I figured I do it for her.

It's the SAME thing as everything else. Desolder the leds and solder new ones on.

its really not that hard like look at some you tube videos on how to do it and if u need some help im cuz i done couple times..
But when u get to the back on snapping of the case be very careful use a flat tip and press down...

It's nice if you want your rf board red, because then you don't have to replace the right angle smds, just the power button. For the outer ring, I just reversed the colors so the red shows the controllers and the green shows errors.

But even if you do want something other than red, it's not bad. It's not as easy as the controller, but with patience a first timer can handle it.

For removing smds, I don't try to desolder them with a wick. I just flood it with solder and it floats off.
