hey again guys I need some help. recently my non-modded psp slim blew up.. I plugged it into the usb and then smoke came out of it and it turned off. It now turns on but nothing else happens apart from the green light. then after a minute or so it turns off. Any idea on what the problem is? I've never opened it, the only mod I have done to it custom firmware...

if i were you i would just send it to sony to get it fixed or exchange it on the store that u got it from.

you used a usb plug that sends to much voltage

I would send to sony

that mobo is fryed (GONE)

Alright thanks. Thats a :censored:ing pain in the ass though. How does a usb plug give to much voltage?? I used it before and it worked fine...

the whole point of USB is that it is a Universal Serial Bus, so it will have the SAME voltage anywhere in the world..

I Would suspect it was a problem with the USB fuse on the mobo, maybe it wasn't tested/working and so the filament didn't melt

I have 2 diffrent usb cords
I have one that works for like EVRYTHING but my gp2x
Then I have one that only works with my gp2x

I personally was talking about USB cable in general. I've got a mini b that works on ALL of my MINI B electronics but not on my phone(IT FITS IT THE FRIGGIN PHONE), then there's one that ONLY works on my phone. Explain that.
I also have REGULAR usb cables with the same predicament. Working on all/most except a few. Explain it.
And don't go off on what mario said, because you yourself said he was wrong.

same usb cable, but cant be used in different electronics equipment is because they're not the same internally. some complex electronics (phones, pda ) which are more complex uses most or all of the 5 pins in that usb cable to transfer more data. but less complex things like mp3 players or cameras only use some of the pins since they only transfer song files. that explains why you cant use an mp3 player's cable for a phone, but you can use a phone's usb cable with an mp3.

correct me if im wrong

but i do experience some frustrating occurrences when i borrow my friends' mp3 player's usb cable to connect to the pc. it does detect my psp, but failed to correctly register it.
also, if the usb cable is cheaply made, chances are they were made specifically for the item bundled with it.

Yes, USB is a standard, and all its connectors, but not all cables have all the pins, so the PSP etc may not need the same pins the phone needs or whatever.

Also, becuase of this, a cable with all the pins should work fine, but what if a pin the phone needs is damaged.

Also, lay of Alien, he knows his stuff, which is more than i can say for most of you.
