RoL Questions
« on: August 18, 2008, 10:50:51 PM »
Where can i get 0603 blue smds for the RoL mod? Will they work for both the controllers and the RoL mod? What supplies will i need for soldering and how difficult is this? Thanks Guys.

hey welcome to acidmods.com! i just ordered a bunch of smd leds and 3mm leds from
http://www.sickmods.net/ and they should be here any day, but anyways thats the cheapest ive seen them ever, like 40 cents each, even cheaper for 3mm leds. if your only doing the rol mod you just need a 15w soldering iron and some 60/40 rosin core solder, and probably some tweezers. i accidentally bought 62/36/2 silver bearing solder and it works fine. just make sure you get a really light guage thats really thin because otherwise you will have a hard time soldering. post some pics when your done!

I'd take the 62/36/2 over the 60/40. It's a lot nicer to work with.

Okay, and do i need a desoldering braid? Oh and also, i read the right smds are 1204 right angle, so why not use those?

this is a relatively easy mod if you can handle tiny stuff (or get a buddy and have him hold the smd with tweezers :P) but if you have never soldered before practice a bit first untill you are comfortable

OK. One more question to see if anyone has the answer to. Why not use the 1204 right angle smds if they are the correct ones?

If you're talking about the controller then you're wrong. The controller uses 0603 smd leds. The 360 uses right angle 1204 though. You don't HAVE to use them. You can use different SMD leds. Most people use 0603 for led swaps.

Yes i know the 1204s are for the xbox only, but what im asking is why not use them? Are they harder to solder on? Not as much light? Or are they easier to solder?

The 0603 or 0805s are easier to find and cheaper to buy. You could use 1204s if you can find the right ones. For each one on the 360, the red and green share a common positive and have separate negatives. So as long as you find the right ones in the colors you want, you'd be set. They are going to be more expensive, too.
