if in your bios it is set to go floppy,cd,hdd then you should have something flash up saying press any key or something to boot from cd. if it isnt like that you need to change your boot order by going into your bios

when i have the cd in the screen just stays black. i changed the boot order in setup mode and still had that same screen, unless i changed it wrongly, which i think i probably did.

EDIT: ok when i turn on the pc, i press ESC, then it says to select the boot device, i select the drive the cd is in, and then it stays in that black screen, and on the screen(i have it connected to an lcd tv) it says "out of range".

EDIT #2: tried to boot it on my vista laptop and works perfectly, any ideas as to why it wont boot on the xp pc?

only thing I can think of is that either your of or the LCD screen can't support the resolution that the cd is putting out, that's what my old samsung monitor says when the resolution is set too high for it to display.
