Find me something?
« on: September 27, 2008, 09:32:57 AM »
My friend from school can get me free computer parts, so I'm redesigning my computer I want to build. I'm making a list for the really good computer and hopefully my friend can get me parts (C2X, 9800s, etc.) and stuff. I'm also making a not so expensive but good list too incase she can't get the best stuff.

My question right now, can someone find me a good PSU that will work with a QX9650, 8gb of RAM, a 790i Ultra (20 + 4pin connector), and 2 9800 GX2s in SLI?
Thanks!

LOL.
and, yeah if I get a 1000w one I'll need a case that will fit it though...
Will the Antec Twelve Hundred fit a 1000w psu?

Yea the 1200 can probably fit it. The PSU mounts at the bottom and theres plenty of room down there.

With that said, I like that PSU.
The power connector is a 20+4 pin. The motherboard uses a 24 pin connector (my bad, I put 20+4 pin at the top).
Will it work with it? Or can I just buy an adaptor?

Also, for the PCIe power connectors. I would need two 6 pin and two 8 pin.
Will that PSU's two 6 pin and two 6+2 pin connectors work?

*edit
In the pictures it showed it had two 6 pin and one 8 pin. If the 6+2 pin won't work, could I add another 8 pin?

I want to make sure 100% this will be fine...

*edit
Wait, are the 12v rails the 8pin? I think so... If so, the Corsair one is rated for SLI and it has two 12v rails. But it says it has six 6+2 pin. I'm guessing I could use just the 6 pin connector and leave the 2 pin unplugged?

Lol I just need this cleared up. I'm not the best when it comes to PSUs XD

yeah the "6+2" is also conisidered an 8 pin, its just so if you need more 6 pins you can leave out the +2 pins, im using this same PSU except i have the 800W version, also the 20+4 pin is the same as a 24 pin, once again you can just disconnect a piece that slides onto the plug to make it a 20 pin (does that make since   :dntknw: ) My motherboard is a 24 pin as well and im running to GTX 280s which require 1, 6 pin and 1, 8 pin per video card and it is THE BEST PSU i have ever bought, and cable management is a breeze!  :#1:

lolol

Thanks a ton blackburn! Hopefully I'll have my computer set up by my birthday (March) with the help of my friend.
I'm HOPING she'll be able to get me a C2X and some 9800s or 280s, maybe the PSU and RAM. Other than that I think I'll be able to handle it. But hot damn, if she can snag me some of those, I'll have my ultimate dream computer (for about a month until something new comes out :taunt:)

She's one of my friends, her dads work gets rid of tons of computer parts. Something about working with the government? She's gotten parts for herself, and some of our other friends too, I asked her if she could get me part to build a computer and she said yes...
LOL.

I got an antec Twelve Hundred from microcenter for 152$ when newegg was selling for 250$. These cases are huge and if u find something that cant fit in this monster, then sir that part is not for you. For the psu, u got atleast a foot and a half to mount that sucker.
