GBA (1st Gen) Screen Mod
« on: October 15, 2008, 02:01:29 PM »
Objective: Take a DS(1st Gen) top screen and add it to a GBA  1st Gen.
Steps:
Well b/c i dont have a triwing, i cant really say what i am going to do yet, but i did rip up my ds, to get the top screen.
Now i have been looking at the screen shots of a gba insides. They look like i can do what i plan on doing..
if anyone knows how to make a homemade triwing please tell, or else im just going to rip up my gba..
lol.. ill take pix's as i get along..!
Screen Shots So far:

This above is just the back of the screen ill be using...

This is the front...

Not what its going to look like exactly, but you get the idea..

dslitemodder: use the to add pictures.  :winker:

i made them like that so people can click them, the images are too large.

Kicks: *sigh*, I made the pics smaller and clickable to the full size...

get one on dealextreme or take a piece of plastic as thick as a precision screw driver, heat up the end with a lighter (sisters hair dryer works good, from own experience ) and stick it in the screw for 10 seconds. after doing this a couple times you should cool the tip and there you go. a tri wing screw driver.

Thanks mate for the help, but i dont have vista, So i am just going to code it, and people will just have to go to the link.. hum...
You guyes need a hide or a spoiler option in your posts... that can help hide large images, and they would have to click a button to see it, and then they can click it again to put it away

I don't think the DS's top screen is compatible with the original GBA. What you could do though is to remove the screen and boards from a GBA SP and relocate to the original GBA, if you wanted to. This will give the frontlight.

oh really? i have 2 of both gba and gbasp so i mine as well will try it, i was going to use a Field Programmable Gate Array, to get the ds screen thing to work... but yeh ill try that..

BTW: i am not using this screen mod for my mod dec comp.. i got something 100% better!

Cool that you are going to do it with an FPGA!  :hifive:

Make sure you post pics when you do this mod, sounds awesome.

Cool

Have a look at www.fpga4fun.com
And I recommend the spartan 3

Although, bear in mind, the spartan 3 will cost about 8 times as much as the gameboy.

Wow 8x more.. um.. i might just go with making a light to light up the original screen then....
i dont fully understand what your getting at with the sparta 3, it looks cool, has good features, but how could i use this to connect the two systems screens if sparta 3 uses - x1 Parallel Port
- x1 Serial Port... ???

I recommend you do some reading on FPGA's.
Maybe take a class at your local engineering college.

Please tell the truth.

Okay, Please explain this to me:

The Field programmable Gate Array only came into the scope of your limited knowledge two days ago. Here We are Two days later, and you are telling me that you can program these beasts. So I ask you these simple questions:

Where did you gain your Ba/Ma in Informations Systems Engineering?

Secondly, You tell me why the sparta 3 is better, as this is very simple to see, providing you know what you are talking about.

And thirdly, Again, You tell me how an FPGA is used to interface a DS screen with a Gameboys.

Thank you.

I have never gained a Ba/Ma, i said i know how to program them, because i was just reading on them, and you have to make a script or what ever, then transfer it to the sparta... I dont know the scripting language at all, i am just saying i know the basic noob stuff.

Secondly, You tell me why the Sparta 3 is better, as this is very simple to see, providing you know what you are talking about.
I have no clue why the Sparta is better, thats why i asked you

And thirdly, Again, You tell me how an FPGA is used to interface a DS screen with a Gameboys.

A FPGA would be good for a interface for  DS screen for the gameboy because it would do the translating so that they work..
like that one guy did with the ds and his touchscreen screens..."Jumbotron DS" i am guessing your going to be sending signals thru the sparta so that they connect to the system..

ill be using this if i ever do..

BTW: i learned alot from this site..

I'm sorry please tell the truth, child.
Even a "noob" would actually know the fundamentals of how they work.

Anyway, I am going to let this thread die it's belated death.
