i got this problem when i try to install and dual boot mac leopard on my intel laptop. i partition my hard drive, then boot from the disc. when it loads up i go to disk utilities etc and it all installs perfectly. then when i restart my laptop it says "missing operating system" and i cant boot it either vista or leopard. what am i doing wrong? is there some other stuff i have to do then partition my hdd, boot from the cd, format that partition of the hdd in disk utilities and then install it? btw i also have easybcd installed so its not that i have no operating system selector installed.

So vista was the first one installed? Then you installed leoperd. Im not a pro at duel booting or anything but I know when I had vista installed already then went and installed Ubuntu it automaticaly partitioned the hard drive for the amount of space I wanted for each and it automaticaly when i booted the computer it asked me which os to boot from and linux and vista both worked properly. So if you didnt try it with vista first then install lepeard then maybe try it that way. If not then maybe just try it without using you duel boot selector and maybe that has something to do with it. Like I said I am no expert at this though

I've read that some laptops installed with vista can cause problems when people try to install xp. I guess that it might also be your problem here to because your installing something other then vista.

i thought you couldnt install OS X on windows PCs.

AFAIK the only way i knew was to use Hackintosh.

Here. Do this. It should work perfectly for you.

First, install Vista on the partition you want.
Then, install OSx86 on the partition you want. (REMEMBER to go into disk utilities and reformat the mac partition as MAC OS JOURNALED)
When you boot, you *should* get an HFS+ partition error, this is fine.
Boot into the Vista DVD, and click repair.
Choose vista partition. It will say there is a problem with the bootloader, and it will fix it the bootloader for you.
Boot into Vista.
Install EasyBCD and use that to add OSx86 to the bootloader.
Reboot, you're good.

NOW. If you already have both installed and don't want to format, then try this.
Boot into the Vista DVD and hit repair.
It should find your vista partition and tell you something's wrong.
Fix it.
Reboot. Install EasyBCD and add OSx86.
you should be fine now.

Actually, you actually don't right now. OSx86 overwrites the Vista bootloader, EasyBCD does nothing, it only edits it. You don't NEED EasyBCD installed, it only allows you to edit it using a nice little GUI instead of cmdprompt.
Try what I wrote, post back with results.

You really did not give any information. Anyways, why not go over to insanelymac? Then again, they usually take a while for anyone to help. My method is different than PSPkicks, I had formatted and crated the partitions before installing vista or mac. Another thing, which patched distribution are you using? Kalyway's is the most supported, so more people will help you out over at insanely mac or any of them other forums. I however found that Kalyway's was always failing and freezing, while the boot time was 5 seconds, most programs failed to run. So I used JaS 10.5.4 release, it runs flawlessly on my intel desktop. Anyways, if you want me to give you my instructions I will, but it assumes you have everything important backed up to an external HDD.

another alternative would be to buy a mac

sure, it'll break your wallet, but everything works and its legal

(also, wait for tuesday, as there is rumor of a sub 800$ macbook..)

He had done that before, I believe. But now he has both installed and no bootloader.
(I'm triple booting OSx86 Kalyway 10.5.4, Ubuntu 8.04, and Vista Ult. Black Ed. 2009, I know what I'm talking about ^_^)

well when i went to click "repair" it didnt show i had an operating system installed. no i didnt format my vista partition in disk utilities. so i started from scratch and well i installed it and now i can boot into vista but when i try boot into mac it says "chain booting error".

You don't format your Vista partition in disk utility. You format the MAC partition in disk utility...I said that.
And, go into X:/ (Windows) and go into...uhm... I think it's "boot". Make sure the mac bootloader file is there...

i phrased it wrong, i know that only the mac partition is supposed to be formatted, and also i didnt' know i had to put the mac bootloader file there but then i done something stupid and im just re-installing everything. Also, what is the name of the file i have to put in the windows > boot file? most of the files from the iso have "boot" in them.

No, EasyBCD puts the file there. I was just saying make sure it's there.

If you're starting from scratch, just install OSx86 first, then Vista, then install EasyBCD and add OSX to the bootloader.

You used EasyBCD to add it right?
Make sure it put the file in C:/boot/ or it won't do anything.

what would the file be named as?

EDIT: Ah i see now, easybcd placed the file into c: and not into windows > boot. when i try move the file it says i dont have permission and wont allow me to move it. how do i direct easybcd to place the file there or i might just load up linux and move it there but i'll do that tomorrow, kinda late here now.

Oh, mine was in C:/ boot. It should be in there, but who knows.
Try moving it into there and then trying to boot into OSx86.

If that doesn't work, post here again and I'll attempt to type up a full-fledged tut for you to follow...

Disaster CD > Vista Ultimate > partition > Install EasyBCD 1.7 > install Hackintosh > Vista Repair.

should solve your problem.

wait, before you do, maybe ive missed something stupid and thats why its not working. after i complete the installation on my partition, do i have to patch/activate/do something else and then load up easybcd? ive tried activating the partition through the vista installation disc but has no effect, right now i have just the leopard installed and it wont boot into it.

First answer this. You DID check the hcl over at the OSx86 wiki to make sure you're installing the right extras for your computer, right?
And you DID select the right kernel and stuff, right?
You can NOT just hit "install" without changing anything, or it won't work.

Right now you just have leopard installed? Then install Vista and use EasyBCD to add OSx86 to the bootloader. Check to see if the file is in C:/boot/ and then test it.
If you've got both installed, there's a thing in a thread over at InsanelyMan about how to use the Kalyway disk to set Vista as active, or if you want, OSx86 as Active(the partition), and Darwin will automatically have an entry to boot into Vista once it loads..

Yup checked at the wiki and no im not just hitting install, i did modify the settings and such. I have kalyway and iatkos but kalyway wont load up and iatkos just restarts the laptop when it starts loading up.

EDIT: lemme double check with my friend who lent me the cd, see where he got the ISO from.
