New to moding. A few questions
« on: October 16, 2008, 03:43:21 PM »
Hey guys i was wondering about led modding an original DS that i have. I painted the shell of the ds and now am trying to led mod it, but i have a few questions regarding the actual LED lights them selves.

Today i purchase what seem to be 3mm led lights, that allow 2 to 5 volts. Then as i read a few articles and post i noticed that i may need size 0603 LED lights.

So all in all I was wondering if i could use the ones i bought instead of getting the 0603 size LEDs. Since i am just trying to have the L and R trigger buttons light up and they should fit into the triggers.

I would try it out, see if it works, thats the best way yo see if its possible, maybe you might be the first, and then you can make your own tutorials with those sizes..

I believe your right.I have a very bad feeling that they are not going to fit or something where i wont be able to use them.

I do have another question though.

Concerning the paint job i did. Is there any substance that i can get at a Home Depot or some hardware store that will protect the paint from peeling off from use, Some sort of protection from the future ware and tear.

LED in a ds...?....i never thought of that...maybe ill try it when i get a new soldering iron :whoosh:

Anyways about your paint issue.
Go to lowes(i recommend because its just better i think) and pick your paint.
Then pick a polyurethane finish. (you can also find this at craft stores)

*warning* I dont recommend spray laquer unless you want to blue tape all parts your dont want to hit. *warning*

Other than that.
After  you buy your polyurethane.
Pick up some disposibal sponge brushes which should be in a pack of 30 ect ect
Then add about 4 coats on to really get a nice glossy look and feel.
Let dry over night inside unless its cold.
Humidity will make the drying process take longer.

Hope i somewhat helped.
