Ok guys I recently got a xbox 360 wired controller at the flea market for $3.   I'm going to solder wires to all the traces to all the buttons and analog sticks to attach the controller to things like a ps2 controller or a gamecube controller.  I plan to put a playstation controller in a box like this guy did and hook up the xbox 360 controller to that so there's no case hacking required and so I can swap controllers and/or connect a different controller to it.

But I still have a few quick questions I need answered.  I have the CL version of the board btw  :winker:

1.  Do I need to remove the IC chip for this to work?
2.
Newer CL Version Top NOTE: This board uses a Common Line (1.8v) for all of the buttons.
Does that mean I have to have 1.8v connected to the controller for it to work?
3. Does anybody know where to get a 35+ pin connector?
Thanks guys

UPDATE:  Ok I got all but two of the buttons soldered.  I also have the analogs ready and soldered too.
What's left to do:
resolder the trigger buttons and solder the traces for those two
solder to the common line trace
Solder to the rumble motors +/- wires
Put it all back in the case and solder to a 35+ pin connector.

UPDATE 2: I Found a nice 40 pin connector that suits my needs at sparkfun
I'll solder this to some perfboard for some easy wiring

I still really need those questions answered so I can continue.

It means, that for a button press to be registered, the xbox has to read the button at 1.8v, So you replace the common 1.8v with the common ground from your PS2 controller.

Correct me if I'm wrong [someone more knowlegable than me]

Why on earth are you Using IC sockets? Get some female headers.

So I just have to solder the xbox's ground to the ps2's ground and it will work?

I'm using IC sockets because that's the only thing I could find.

There is no "ground" for the buttons on this controller, there is the 1.8v, you solder the PS2 controller ground into the 1.8v traces.

Okay thanks I was wondering how to go about that. It makes things a lot simpler for me.  I will post pics of the wired up controller later when I finish it.

Update: Ok I finished wiring everything but the xbox button.  The reason being is because I accidently burnt off the solder point for it.  But thats ok because I have everything else wired and ready to go (including rumble!)

Left to do:
buy female/male headers

http://www.sparkfun.com/commerce/product_info.php?products_id=116
Wire buttons and analogs to the female header
Wire up ps2 controller
Test
