New psp slim pcb axby board with razor x?
« on: October 28, 2008, 08:04:11 PM »
Hey guys I've been having this idea lately but I've never bothered to post it so here it is.  I was think because it's so hard to do the razor mod on the psp slim because you have to do three things:
1. have to rewire power switch
2. You have to trim get rid of the axby board
3. You have to solder to solder the fpc connector

I was thinking that maybe we can design a pcb that solves all three problems at once.  We would have the razor x attached to a board with the axby buttons and switches in place already. And it would have the ribbon cable leading the fpc where the original cable plugged into. So it's just basically just swap out the parts and put on a faceplate with a pre-drilled hole.

well first of all the difficult part would be fitting it inside the 2k/3k

second, are you going for thesame type of powerboard for the phat? so the x o etc.. are on a pcb and not on a ribbon cable? if so it would be twice as thick.

To all of you crying about lag and kicks, remember… when Jesus died, took him 3 days to respawn. Now THAT is lag.

No not like that.  It would be the proper shape that it would need to be so it can fit.
It would look simiar to this:

with a switch and the razor x attached.
The razor x would have the traces to the axby buttons and the buttons would have the traces to the fpc slot so there's not soldering involved.  Same story with the power connector.

Many others have also thought of this.
Very hard.
dang, because I thought I would be easy because we know where the axby buttons are on the fpc connector

Yeah, but finding them on the connector takes 10 seconds.
IT would have to be manufactured on insanely thin circuit board, and would have to be milled (I have a cnc haha) or fabbed.

I dont think the razor X will fit.

Hard

Thet would be possiable to but harder becasue the board is double sided and if this is going to be homemade it sorta hard to made double sided boards at home

In a way, you are referring to a way of making them.

But you cant just open up a text document, type "PSP Slim ABXY Redesign" and click print..

Of coase not like that but in a way thats kinda what you do . There a type of  PCB board printer and prints the solder traces and shi- I seen one in action printing out begel boards ALOT of them forgot whats its called but im sure it works the same way as an ink jet printer.

Yes, I know the exact method you are talking about. You need a Laser printer.

But in no way is that what you do..This topic is about the Design of the PCB, this is before that stage.

if this was made it would open up the slim and the 3000 to proper FPS gaming. the razor-x for the Phat was a brilliant idea and has intreseted modders everywhere. A slim version would be more than welcome. :)

Good luck.

Make sure your caliper is working!

Also, on the freeware of eagle you can't place zif pads on the bottom layer, and you will have to make your own footprints (No I won't give you mine Heha)
