installing a new CPU on an old pc

Current CPU - Athlon 64 3500+ 2.2 GHz
Mobo - Motherboard Name: MS-7093 HP motherboard name: Albacore-GL6E
Memory - upgraded to 3gb
Video Card - upgraded to Ati Radeon 3650 HD

So......this pc is quite old... bought in 2005 september.

I want to buy a new Cpu and i had this in mind - http://microcenter.com/single_product_results.phtml?product_id=0292204

The question is....will it be able to run on my old pc?

Look your CPU Socket on your Current Mobo is 939. And The 6000+ is AM2. So no you cant upgrade your CPU to the 6000+ and 939 is Now not being made.

well the problem is
the processor has another socket then the mobo you have.

which results in a new mobo
and if you get a new mobo, you will probably have other connections for the video card etc..

you probably have a AGP slot and a PCI slot on your mobo (AGP for your video card)
newer motherboards have PCI-E slots and PCI slots.
so the video card you now have is not going to fit in another slot. which results in a new video card.
The newer motherboards have DDR2/DDR3 slots on them for the RAM.
now,.. you probably now have DDR or one of the oldest DDR2


The next thing is that the new motherboard and video card need more power. So a new Power supply is needed.


So the best thing is,.. A new PC

Yes Every thing DD just said is Too True.. Might I suggest a Bare Bones kit. it would have Just about every thing you Need. Motherboard, Memory, Processor, Hard Drive, Video Card, & A Power Supply Unit. (lol and a Case you should know that.) its your Best bet. Or buy a Prebuilt..your choice.

the video card should work cuz the mobo in the kit has pci-e slot.   The kit doesnt include cooling fan. which one from tigerdirect should i get with the mobo?

What else should i need to buy and what should i have to take out of my old pc? i read somewhere that if you put the wrong ram for exampe my old pc has 3200 and the kit has 6400, the 3200 ram would work slower in the kit pc right? if its not true tell me please.

Anything else i should know please tell me.

You can't necessarily replace the mobo in a prebuilt PC like that. It all depends on the form factor.

New cases these days support various motherboard form factors and you can check that up at a lot of places. I faced the same decision before I got my new PC. There's no way around it. The best thing to do is to save up and buy a new computer.

Haha, bought a full ATX case for an ASUS micro ATX board. It was quite funny :D.

lol Damn Just Think How much room you have and It Must stay quite Nice and Cool. I have a Full ATX GIGABYTE Chassis with a ASUS Full ATX.. Asus FTW..
