Hey,

WARNING: attempting this mod could result in serious injury or death, it is just an idea. DON'T try it

I was just thinking about an extra power source to light up or power all your mods for the 360 and came up with this:

I will be using the figure 8 power lead like the one used for the PS1:

Now onto the 360. Since there's a little bit of space in the bottom right corner as shown in the picture. (The red rectangle indicates the area available and the yellow is where I will be able to drill). I was thinking of drilling some holes and fitting the adapter or connector or whatever its called into that hole.

Once that is installed I expect it to look something like this (please excuse my REALLY bad editing):

Now for a small circuit board to fit along the grey air vent panel, a few pads to be able to solder whatever you need:

So what do you guys think ? I know its just early days and planning. But I think it could work well. Please comment.

It would work.
But I think having the cable like that is too much power...

This wouldn't be deleted, why would you think that?

What about like a 12volt one ? I dunno in the sticky above Fufa said he would delete any posts about external power sources for like fans.

This is a mod idea. It won't be deleted. Besides, *Fufa is never active anymore.

Still a good idea, and I think 12v would be better.

You have to make the AC into DC electricity or else you wont be able to do any useful mods. The converter is the bulky part that converts 120V AC (220V in Europe as ur picture would suggest). The power brick on the 360 is just an example of an AC to DC converter. A common solution is to use a "wall wart" or a converter that plugs into the wall.

If you internalized a wall wart you could use that idea, but they are bulky and can produce a lot of heat, depending on what you hook up to it. Also, the wall wart will rate the amount of current that you will be able to source from your new supply.

hmmm, yeah I was thinking of like using a phone charge or the PSP one...but that would only limit the mods to LED's. Wouldn't be strong enough for anything else.

802Chives: What if I modded the PSP adaptor to allow a little bit more volts through ? ( I don't know how to do that anyway, maybe you guys would) But it would still be AC....What about a transformer ? Like a low voltage one like this:

That's why you use a charger or power cord that is used for something that requires more power.
Like, a psp charger outputs 5v I think.
DS charger outputs 3.3v I think.

Use a charger or cord/transformer that outputs something like 12v.

I just asked my friend and his laptop charger is 5a 15v input AC and 14v 5a DC output. Would that be OK ?

Please no one try this as this is a set up for serious injury.. AC (Alternating current) can be very dangerous.. It would be better for you to find a DC power plug at radio shack somthing rated no grater then 12v...

Yeah thats what I intend on doing. 12v DC power supply that or a 5v one like the PSP charger. I was just putting the idea out there. Just for the sake of it, maybe it might help someone. Personally if I was going to do this I would get the 5volt PSP charger and just use it to power LED's

Well, if you only need a 5v source, I would think a mini USB female port could be used to hook up either a Motorola style phone charger, or a Male fullsize USB to Male mini USB cable from the back USB port on the 360 itself if it were just led mods... I don't know about the amperage supply from the onboard USB ports. Just food for thought.

it converts 110v Ac to selectable 6-12VDC power. this will provide an alternate 12 volt power supply MS cannot trace.

Nice find. But I think the idea of using the USB port for a power source sounds pretty good. Thats if your just going to have LED mods. But for something more extravagant that would be ideal. Thanks again

I am sorry, I thought this thread was about adding 12v fans, without MS detection, not LED's???? my bad.

one question, is the usb allways active? I have not used the usb consetions much. I know my camera comes on when on the dashboard, then off when I start a game, so I dont know???

The mod's for everything....fans, leds whatever. I was just saying if I were to do it I would only do a led mod so I wouldn't need any adapters/converters, just a small voltage.

Theoretically it should, there's not much to it. Just having troubles figuring out he power supply. But Containm3nt proposed a good idea. If you look up he said that you could use the USB at the back for a power source.

Don't worry about being banned for a controller mod, I believe that PNC is USB powered so the worst that will happen is the machine will disable the USB powerbus if too much current is drawn(500mA). That being said if you are simply replacing LEDs there is nothing to worry about. If you are adding leds, you will need to add a ton of them to get over the 500mA threshold.

The 360 being banned by using 12V fans is almost an urban legend. One person, maybe 2, have reported this happening, but I suspect there was more to it than a 12V fan. IMHO the reason the people got banned is that they were messing around with firmware files that flagged M$ to look deeper into those particular cases. Since the files that they were messing with arent easily monitored by M$ the easiest way to punish them was to look a power consumption and Ban em that way. Long story short, the banning of 12V moddified xboxs is very real, but I dont think that it is something that M$ actively monitors in order to give out bans. I ran a box with an added 12V fan for months and never had any issues, also there are people with 3-5 additional 12V fans that have never had an issue. So the possibility does exist, just the probablity is very low that this would happen.

To my knowledge, most LEDs (I know most SMDs) run on 20mA a peice usually less in actuality, so theoretically if you had LESS than 25, you could run it from the USB port. The easiest way would be to just unplug the cable, however one of the guys could figure out a cable that would pass the power on through when the data lines are active when the box is on. And the source voltage from a USB port is only +5v by the way...

You don't need to worry about being banned this is what this mod is about. You can solder all your LED's or whatever to that little circuit board I drew up. (I'm sure someone else can make a MUCH better one) but you get the idea. Its completely separate to the xbox so you can't get banned.

...and no tutorial yet lol. I'm not very experienced in taking my xbox apart and I don't like drilling holes in things lol. No one has tried it yet. Thats why I posted it here.

I have partly read through this thread, but I feel I must comment.

Max, I wouldn't recommend you try any mods of this nature until you have a better understand of current, voltage and the consequences.

30 milliamps AC could kill you.
200 milliamps DC could kill you.

You will be working with higher amperages..
