USB Charge Mod w/video and pictures
« on: June 19, 2008, 05:48:48 PM »
Well, I just completedthe USB charge mod. I used the tutorial in that section of this site. It works great now. But this is the second time I did it. The first time I did it, somthing was shorting it out and I'm not quite sure what. I have an idea though. There was a gold spring thing that contacts with the LCD cage . My wire was routed right next to it. When j put the LCD cage on they touched. I think this was causing the short. Does anyone know.

Also I did this mod without using solder of any kind. All I used was the wire, electrical tape, and skill. But it worked.

Anyway, with this mod, the psp has the ability to charge using USB or the ac adaptor. My question was this: could anything happen to my psp if both got plugged in at the same time? It may be a stupid question, but I really do wonder and I'm no about to use my psp to try. Anyway thanks.

P.S. This is a phat psp not the slim.

Hot glue lol, good luck that imposible reall because the hotglue would just go all over led and wires wouldnt make good contact. But what eveer dude you should just learn to solder. I learned, been modding for less than 6 months! It gets pretty easy with practice. And just make your own technuiques up to make it easier.

i did mine without solder too, and i'm only 14! it worked just fine until i did a full case mod on my psp and replace the electrical tape with some of a better grade... now anytime i connect a usb cable it doesn't even try to connect, it gets stuck on saying "connect a usb cable".  i tried like 5 different computers and 3 different memsticks with no luck. any ideas?

Your wire is touhing both the first and second pins. Make it only touch the first pin (left to right).

A few others have had the same problem.

Oh and by the way, I know how to solder perfectly now. But my mod is still working this way so I see no reason to change it.
