Hard Drive Question??
« on: February 19, 2009, 09:16:18 PM »
I have an original extra PS3 60 gb hard drive that I would like to use as an external hard drive to be use on the PS3. The hard drive is in perfect working condition and just recently I purchased an enclosement case that would allow me use the hard drive via usb connection. The only problem is that when connected to the PS3's usb connection, the console does not recognize the hard drive or connection. Does any body here ever experience similar situation? Any suggestions or opinions that can help me understand the problem would be appreciated, THANKS...

I'm sorry, I don't understand the fat32 part. The hard drive came out of a PS3 console. Trying to trouble shoot the problem, I took the 60 gb drive and installed it inside its original compartment. Right away the console recognize the drive with out further problems. If it works fine thru this installation why it doesn't work thru the usb connection? Thanks..

I plug it in to my computer and the computer recognize the usb connection but not the hard drive. When double clicking on the "My Computer" icon to see the list of connected hard drives, the only two drives that shows up on the list are my two internal drives, Drive C and Drive E. Supposely, if the external hard drive would have shown up under the list, it would have shown up in the list area that says "Devises with Removable Storage" but even in this list area is still not showing up. Because of this, there's no way of formating the hard drive.

Well, I double checked my available Internal hard drives and both are labeled Local Disk C and Local Disk E under the area that says Hard Disk Drives.

Seems the drive might be dead. You sure it works?

I'm sure the 60gb hard drive works because I put the drive back inside the ps3's internal compartment and right away the console recognized the drive. All of my old themes were still in place including some demo games. THANKS...                          EDIT:  I finally did it. I took an extra PC hard drive and had it formated to fat32. I plug it to my ps3 usb plug and instantly the console recognized it. I didn't know that there was a bit of a process that I had to do first. Now I know for next time. Well, to does who supported me on this topic, THANKS...
