Striped Screw Help (Fast Responces Please!!!)
« on: January 29, 2009, 04:52:03 PM »
Well, I was doing the LED sound-reactive (Direct Connection) trigger mod and when I lifted up the backlight cable tab and it snapped off the mobo. I was like, "No big deal" because I have a second PSP with a broken LCD that I use for parts and I decided to take the mobo off that one and put it in the one I'm working on. I got almost all the screws of the frame, but I stripped the last one (Like last time). Then I decided to do that electrical tape mod where you put the tape on the back of the LCD backlight ribbon. But then I messed up and put it on the front by accident. So then I put it on the right side of the ribbon, but now my backlight won't even light up. So finally, what can I do to remove that stripped screw to change the mobo?

P.S. I don't have a small enough drill-bit to work. Please help fast because I'm going on a trip for the weekend starting tomorrow morning

Are you saying that the actual connector ripped from the mobo?
If you can get to the screw with pliers(needle nose), you may be able to carefully pull it out

This is just an idea from the top of my head..I have no idea if it will do any damage to your motherboard or not.
Take a soldering iron and put it on the screw. Just enough to get it really hot (hopefully to melt the plastic that is holding it a bit)
Then take pliers or something and see if you can get it out easier.

lol..discard that last idea if you think I'm crazy for thinking it

The connector didn't rip, just the tab broke off. And the last idea isn't that crazy. You do that when you need to remove striped things on a car, don't you?

Oh ok. If the little black tab broke off, then the backlight will still work. Mine always do.
I have no idea how to remove stripped screws from cars, I just thought up a random idea lol

I take it that you are still using the mobo w/ the little black tab missing on the connector
If so, Plug in the screen and take something metal..tweezers or something so you can make sure you didn't blow the backlight fuse.

Actually, a good way to remove a stripped screw (depending on where it is) is to solder a P.0.S. screwdriver to the screw, and then get it out. Otherwise just try drilling off the head and using needle nose pliers to get the rest out.  :hifive:

if you have another psp I asume that you have another faceplate so just ripp off the one with the stripped screw. This does work you just have to be carefull not to crack your LCD u was able to do this once without wreaking anything but cracked the faceplate into a million peices. I would first try to solder a  screwdriver to the screw first then try melting the plastic and if nothing else works do what I did.

Get a lolly stick (From left over ice cream/lolly)

Put a bit of hot glue on one side

Stick the hotglue to the screw aswell

Let It dry

You could also super glue the tip of a screwdriver to it. Then twist it out as usual.

super glue would probably work better than hot glue because its stronger and easier to apply.
