Macbook randomly shutting down
« on: January 25, 2009, 12:37:46 AM »
I got my macbook about 3 years ago and now whenever I remove the charger it shuts down!  Does anybody know how to fix this? Or even if apple will fix this?

I am also a fellow macbook owner. I had the same problem before and it ended up being the battery. But just to be sure, whenever you plug it into the wall do you get a green led on the charger or a red led. And also if you turn it over there is a button on the battery, if you push and hold this do any leds light up on the battery?

Thanks for the sig dhuvrock2000

I have two chargers, they both give me the green led.  and my battery shows five bars.

alright. Well that is wierd. Ummn. Have you tried taking the battery out, wating a couple minutes and putting it back in? And also try taking the battery out holding the button on the battery for about 15 seconds, leave the battery out and then hold the power button for a few seconds, this will reset the settings for power on the machines and then put the battery back in and try to start it up. Oh and don't forget to unplug the power.

3 years? Your battery is likely dead, or awful close to it
Get coconut battery and check it's health and cycle count and post it back, that would help us help you

The thing is I never used the battery.  I was like always on charge. Btw coconut says I still have 87% of my battery left so it can't be that.

I'm just going to buy a hp tx2000 off of ebay and install mac on that and go next.  I'll probably going to sell my laptop to make up for some of the cost.

EDIT: I got off of ebay for a great price!
http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=300289561260&_trksid=p3907.m32&_trkparms=tab%3DWatching

Specs:
AMD Turion 64 X2 TL-62
processor speed   2.1 GHz
hard drive capacity   250 GB
memory   3 GB
maximum memory capacity   4 GB
Wi-Fi capability included (Wi-Fi ready)   yes
included integrated drives   DVD±RW/DVD-RAM/DVD+R Double Layer
diagonal screen size   12.1 inches
operating system   Windows Vista Home Premium with Service Pack 1
screen resolution   1280 x 800

Not bad but not the greatest.  I just need it for school, browsing the web, and watching movies.   This should do all that easily, If I need to play video games I have a ps3, ds lite, psp, wii for that.

BTW I'm going to engrave this sucker.  What do you guys suggest that I engrave on it?

Yea so now my macbook battery is broken too! Joy. I just bought it like 4 months ago. Hopefully they will replace it. Apparently it has 157 cycles on it.

if its an official apple battery and is completely not working dead with only 157 they MUST replace it

if that the case for suresies then take it into a genius and he should acknowledge it

yea they are sending me a new one!!!!!
I am so excited. And scared. I have to provide a credit card because if my battery does not make it to apple within the 10 days then I have to pay $129. Scary. I would be really angry if I did. But hopefully it all works out! Now I am reminded why I love apple.

just keep in mind is basic policy that any battery shouldn't be that crappy, dying on 152 cycles... don't fall in love yet...they'll bite back..they always do

but good to hear

What do you mean they will be back?

And also have you ever done this because I still am worried about the possible $129 fee.
