Rapid Fire Potentiometer Question

ok so i have a 555 timer and i made it all nice and stuff it works great then
i found a potentiometer
from an old xbox controller
its the thingy on the side of the analog stick
and it sorta works
but i cnat help it to think i wired it wrong thats why its only showing me the super fast shots no slower speeds.


is it possible for somebody to help?
or even say somthing?

because the xbox analog pots arn't 100k Ohm, buy a 100k trimmer

that is correct, purchase a 100K as listed in the tut, they cost like a dollar
