Home Row Buttons LIT!
« on: April 06, 2009, 09:21:34 PM »
This is a teaser video for you guys that have had doubts so far, about my lighting up the home row buttons.

Yep, I have done it, just working on getting some solder joints flattend out a bit, and everything secured.  What you see in the video is only temporary, as it was used for the teaser video, but the final product will be MUCH better, and I hope to have a better video camera when I take the final video, so you guys can see it in detail.

I AM using the clear buttons for this, as that is the only way I know of to get lit buttons.  The OEM black buttons are solid almost to the surface, so no light would show through, so I had to use the clear buttons.  It actually works quite well, and the light gets diffused nicely.  Very bright, might use the same method on the other buttons.

I wont tell you guys how I did it just yet.  I have found a really clever way of doing the mod, and the parts I am using are avaliable to anyone with some junk PSP Phat parts.

Enjoy the video, while I iron out the rest of the work, and I will see if I cant get a final video up tomorrow afternoon!

So without further adu, I bring to you...

the real problem is getting that to fit and running the wires out without obstructing the home buttons... Props to you if you can do it 100%

Actually, I am not using wires.  lol  At least not what you would normally think of as wire.  A good hint would be that I am using ribbon cable.  Yep, and it works MUCH better than wires.  I am sitting here working on it right now, getting it finished.

still, any form of wiring is going to put pressure on many buttons when one is pressed.

That would be true.  But I have found a way to equal the load, and still have functional buttons.  I am mounting it as we speak.

also, another note. if the homebuttons get to much presure the screen gets  a lot a lines running throught it for a couple of sceonds
However today I was brutally raped by a door handle, and none of my friends helped me up off the floor after ten minutes, instead they all teabaged me, all 10 of them...

Err, can I just hazard a guess here? Did you get the home bar flex cable from another PSP, cut two of the lines from it, soldered them to the LEDs and then run the two ribbon cable strands alongside the working home bar flex cable?
It's the basics that bring us down.

Wow, you are pretty close, but not quite.  You have the right idea.  I actually used the ribbon cable that the LEDs are mounted to for the screens backlight.  Yeah, I broke apart a screen, and noticed a really nice ribbon in it.  Removed the LEDs, jumped a few traces, soldered the new LEDs on, mounted it, and it was done.  Not that bad.  I have one more post about it.  Hopefully, it will get a STICKY!

To all of you crying about lag and kicks, remember… when Jesus died, took him 3 days to respawn. Now THAT is lag.
