My First Case Mod! Help Appreciated! :D
« on: February 07, 2009, 07:49:27 AM »
Alright guys this is my first mod on a case that I will be doing (other then :censored:kin up my old PowerMac G3 by spray paint) and I would like some advice on it. here is a quick sketch-up screenie I made. I plan on cutting out the C logo. And after that I will probably add either 2 blue or 2 UV cold cathodes. BTW: this will be going into an old compaq desktop that I have running as a FreeNAS server. And Tec_ if your there I could use some advice on where to get acryllic and cathodes and such because I live in the twin cities! In fact, your brother tutors me at school. Haha, but yea, advice for cutting and such would be very helpful! Thx!

are you cutting a square out of it or a circle? I think _Tec said to use a jigsaw for straight edges and like a dremel for less straight edges. A dremel might also work for straight lines for your purpose, because it's not a very big square.

chris? ian's told me about you. nice to see you on AM. we need to get a lan party going at the school. you already have the video game club now we just need a lan. (im thinking of doing a story for the front page news on AM about the video game club.)

but yeah for the long lines nothing beats a jig saw with a metal blade. for the small detail work a dermal will come in very handy.

for plastic this is ware i order from http://www.delviesplastics.com/

for cathodes micro center just off of highway 100 has them for about $12.00

if there is some other things your looking for check out http://mnpctech.com/ bill owen runs the site and is local. he has tutes parts and is an all around mod god

any more questions just ask!

Thanks for the links! Haha, a lan party would be awesome! ;D Wow, I have gone to microcenter for a while and I never knew they had cathodes! Thats awesome! And Ian showed me the mnpctech great site with great stuff! I plan on starting the cutting later this afternoon considering I am writing this at 4:28 AM! Hopefully this will look good! :D

EDIT: Ok, I just got back from Micro Center with a dual ccfl set for 9.99$ W00t! I will be posting pictures a little later!

FrostBYTE: Please just edit your links, don't double post :)

To FrostBYTE: Oh, sorry I forgot to look! Won't happen again! ;D

EDIT... AGAIN: Here's the Pictures of the CCFLs and my mapped out window hole. I decided to just make it simple  and take out the middle bar with the logo.

^ I'm planning on mounting the CCFLs here when I get my acrylic. ^

this will look nice! one other thing i would suggest doing would be to sleve those cables, so that it dosent look as messy inside your case

Yea, thanks for reminding me, I got a few rubber bands out ready to go now. I will probably cut the window this weekend when I can get my hands on a jigsaw cuz I don't have one :cry2:. But, now I wait for my acrylic!
