Steam committed fraud?
« on: March 10, 2009, 03:41:56 PM »
Well, basically, im posting this here because only like 5 people view the PC section

My best mate ordered UT3, and so did I

We both had enough on our debit cards, we both have the same type of cards from the same bank

It was half price, so I went and bought it, went just fine, I installed it and it ran all good

My friend bought it (I was there aswell), and It said "Working..." and eventually "An unknown error has occured" or something similiar

Thing is, he hasnt got his game, but steam already have his money, his bank statement shows that steam took the money

And even worse, we tried to get it back, we sent a ticket or whatever its called to steam... Their staff just delete it WTF

WHAT CAN I DO!??!?! Why should my friend have to pay for the game twice, when he only gets it once?

If steam refuse, Im going to phone them and say "If you dont give him the game he paid for, were just gonna upload our existing copies to the pirate bay, along with a keygen"

Anybody else had this problem?

PS: I hate steam now

cant be as bad as my experience with paypal today,
I called so they could unlock my account (with $260 in it partially owed to my friend whos psp I sold)
and they said since you are underage you have to wait until you are 18 and can provide proper documentation
WTF that cant be :censored:ing legal, steal $260 from a minor who was using ebay and paypal under direct supervision of his/her mother
she claimed she cant do anything about it...:censored: THAT :censored: you are the MANAGER you can help me get at least SOME of the money

Treemty, that's stated under their ToS as far as I remember. Maybe you should read them.
It's perfectly legal.

As for the steam deal, not exactly...legal.

I kind of did, you put on a ticket in their support, and they email you back when its answered, but about an hour after it was uploaded it, steam staff didnt even answer it and then they deleted it

So when me and my friends actually pay for games LEGALLY, its much worse quaility than pirating it.

Heck, UT3 is so buggy from steam, I had to move my documents to C:\ because its too retarded to realise my documents were in D:\ so everytime I start it up, it asks me for a serial, and resets everything, and to make it even worse, it totally destroys my rainmeter desktop

From now on I will pirate everything... (Even stuff I wont need, MAWUAUWHAUWH, then seed it forever, SHAME ON YOU, RETARDED COPERATIONS)

I dont know why there making such a big deal outa piracy anyway, I have noticed bit-torrent is much more convineint, for example, say I miss an episode of heroes (I dont watch it though), I could either stream it online through BBC iplayer or so, but its really low quaility and is really buggy (They really need to hire a proper team of programmers), or just download it. If programs like that allow themselves to be freely availible on the net like that, why not bittorrent? bittorrent isnt actually illegal

bittorrent isnt actually illegal

actually i think it is a legal program, people just exploit it (like everything else in the world) and use it for illegal reasons.

99% of these sites that share info and things of that nature, have thier home survers in countries that don have copywrite laws pirate bay as well as my personal favorite surf the channel are both from switzerland. where you can copy almost anything, aslong as you dont sell anything.

I use surfthechannel with my ps3 to watch valkery last night, very good quality bootleg videos. valkery was like i rented it from the store, but I have gotten some crap films also, or the worst thing is when you get 3/4 finished and the rest of the file is missing. but thats the crap you have to deal with when dealing with pirates ARRR ...LOL

You do realize you can redownload things on steam right? Steam is made to be easily set up and able to play all your games you have purchased from them. Just go into steam and uninstall the game and then reinstall. I'm sure thats how they do all their games anyhow. If you really want to try, have your buddy install steam on a different computer and then check the account for available downloads.

No he cant, he paid for it, and it came up on his steams list, when he tried to launch it or download it, it said "Waiting for transaction", then he restarted it, since he waited an hour and nothing. When steam restarted, it was no longer on the list, completely gone, so pretty much Steam commited fraud, they just took his money and didnt give anything back, theft, fraud, whatever...

And their staff dont even respond...

well I'd say uninstall steam and reinstall. Its more than likely just a problem with the server and not them trying to screw people out of their money. I've never had a problem

your friends account was debited for the game, but his steam account doesn't indicate that he ever bought it..... well this is an easy one as he has documents of paying them and no evidence of delivery so believe me when I tell you it will get resolved at some point. Contact his bank and get the relevant info and forward it to steam. I suspect Steam has only a couple employees so it is easy to see how his situation could go unresolved for a bit.

Steam is huge and have no reason to committ fraud as most companies with millions of dollars worth of revenue dont give a sweet crap about ripping someone off for $20. I can already see what their deal is by the lack of response, your friend is not the only one who had this issue. I would bet there are hundreds people with the same problem and just like in the whole Mike and Acidmods shop ordeal it will take time to get it all solved.
