Microsoft Extends 3-Year Warranty to Cover E74
« on: April 14, 2009, 05:59:04 AM »
Microsoft has concieded to cover the ever so common E74 problems with there consoles.  Hmm wasn't there a class action lawsuit forming about that? Now if they pony up and cover the DVD drive problems they might have a decent Warranty plan that covers most of the failures.

Heres and idea how about designing a quality product that will last, I would like to xbox 360 in the legacy console section someday, however at this points looks like that will never happen.

Why don't they just give us a lifetime warranty on every single fault....they owe us for making a console that can't run for more than 3 years.

A little FYI, after a long period of gaming I let mine sit at the dashboard for five or so minutes so the fans can cool the system down instead of just shutting down the console and letting the heat cook it with no fan flow.

I have heard of people leaving their boxes on the Dashboard to let it "Cool" down before shutting off.  There may be some minor advantages, but the box temperature isnt much different when in dashboard versus running a game.  In fact here is a you tube video that says the box was actually cooler while running a game versus sitting in the  dashboard:

Xbox 360 Temperature at Idle & Under Load

Now take it as you will, but all in all I dont think letting your xbox "cool" in the dashboard really helps anything.

Someone may think that letting a chip cool under fan power while the chip isnt operating is better but that also isnt correct because you would cool the chip faster then letting it just sit which means the expansion and contraction of the solderballs with be faster which will cause RROD faster.  What you really want is for the chips to heat and cool very gradually which is near impossible other then teh way M$ has it set up.

i allways return to the dashboard when I get done playing, this has nothing to do with heat, just to see what all is going on with live. as chives said, you dont want to cool it too fast, it needs to cool gradually, cooling the chip faster will do more damage, the key would be to keep it from getting that hot to begin with, hence the fan mods and what not.

here are the tests done by OXM (official xbox magazene) this info with other comparasins can be found in my jasper artical thread.

i dont think it runs cooler, the hdd generates more heat, but the 360 is quieter, and game loads faster.
