LED sizes-3mm or 5mm?
« on: June 09, 2009, 02:51:21 PM »
In a tutorial here it specified to use 3mm LEDs to put under the Nunchuck joystick and the A button on the Wiimote. I only have 5mm LEDs. Will they still work??

For the Red LEDs I have, they are both 1.7 volt, 20mA, 3000mcd.

For the Blue LEDs, they are both 3.7 volt, 20mA, 2600mcd.

You can use it if there's enough space. Only thing you have to worry about is if the nunchuck gives enough power to light up the LEDs. Like if the nunchuck only gives out 3v, you can't use the blue leds because they use 3.7v.

Thanks for the great info. I was going to mix the colors anyway-blue for the wiimote, red for the nunchuck. If I sanded the bulb to fit better, would that work?

Depends how much you sand. I've heard of people sanding the top a little even when they had enough room so the light disperses easier. You can sand, but if you sand too much you'll go right through the plastic to the actual LED and I don't think that's good..

i agree.  5mm is gonna be a tight fit especially under the analog on the nunchuk.  the button on the nunchuk should be a bit easier since there's a wee bit more room.
