hey guys i got an Iphone 3g today...

got it for 130 bucks from a friend :cool:

i have 2.2.1 on my new iphone... pretty sure 5.9 bootloader... can I unlock it, or is it basically an ipod touch with a camera now?

Yes you can unlock it, my iPhone is running 2.2.1 and its unlocked..

nice... now if only i could get it jailbroken... microsoft won't let me download .net 2.0... i get a page error every time i try.

how do you do unlock it btw? last I heard yellowsn0w won't work...

Simple answer:no
Long answer:kinda
Using software you cannot unlock your iPhone because when you updated, it upgraded the baseband to 2.30 with bootloader 5.9 so you can no longer downgrade your baseband, the only valid way to unlock the iPhone that you have in it's curre t state is to buy a turbosim...that's what I did for the iPhone I am using right now..except I am still waiting for it to come in the
Mail, until then I have an iPod touch with a camera :]

edge is accessble but if you have a :censored:ty turbosim your network will drop each time you switch towers so u have to put sim in an unlocked phone or tmobile to make sim work again
i have 6 dollar unlimited tzones on 3g and it works good..
