Sounds bricked... Have you tried reflashing? Normally screwing with hardware shouldn't break it but i've heard it happen.

Just try to clean it up and check that theres no solder balls or anything like that that could short it. Good luck with it. If didnt help then try to get better pics.

It's just hard to see much from those pics. I too had a problem with a non-lighting backlight on a 2000. I bridged it and still nothing. So I found out I had a bad backlight. Maybe when you ere soldering and accidentally dropped a minuscule amount of excess solder somewhere on your motherboard. Just sit down and look all over and see if you seeany soldering touching anything else then the backlight fuse.

That that brown bronze thing, "if you mean what i think you mean" is the area witch grounds the LCD cage. So yes it is pretty important. And i found this pic on net so you could check your solder: http://img72.imageshack.us/img72/261/fusiblespspvu5gq9.jpg hope it helps.

It shouldent matter if its just little burned... But if theres some solder between it and fuse or some other component, then that is possibly the thing that shorts, so check carefully is there any solder between that bronze thingy and any other component. If there is try to get it off carefully.

Is the fuse still there? Just try to clean the spot from glue and take the fuse off if it's still there and put a piece of wire or a blob of solder there. Here's full tut for fixing it: http://www.llamma.com/PSP/repair/PSP_fuse_repair.htm

Desolder or just scratch it off carefully with a knife.

I would suggest getting a magnifying glass and check all around where you were working.  I know you think you can see everything with just your bare eyes but its a lot easier to spot bridges with a glass.

just my 2 cents
