Yeah but another problem with Macs is that they don't accept the wide variety of hardware and software that Windows does.
And if you go "VM or dualboot Windows FTW" then think: That kinda defeats the whole idea of getting a Mac, because you are STILL using Windows.
i do admit that it is based on needs but for 90% of computer users a mac would be fine if not better than windows
i am use my mac for 99% of all computer useage. here is a list of what i use on my mack and what i use it for.
- iLife - sorting pictures fast movie & image editing as well as some very basic website stuff
- itunes & quicktime & frontrow & perian plugin & vlc - music play and manage, movies rentals voice & webcam recording home theatre stuff
- Full adobe CS4 suite - for everything oyu would use adobe cs4 suite on windows
- iworks & mcsft office mac - all my word proccessing and spreadsheet stuff
- coda and textmate - php, html, css editing creating etc etc
- final cut studio - for video & sound editing, dvd authoring etc etc
- MAMP Pro - for turning my mac into a fully working server apache, php, sql, cache&acceleration etc etc for site development
- adium - twitter, msn, aol, google talk, ichat etc etc messenger client
- mail - email client
- adress book and ical - callender contacts etc etc
- yummy ftp & cute ftp - both excellent ftp clients
- spotify - music streaming
- safari 4 & firefox - web brwosing
- skype - international calls
- sling player - using my sling box connected to my sat tv
- quickpwn, pwnage tool - unlocking & jailbreaking itunes
- timemachine - hourly incrimental backups
- vmware fusion - virtualisation of windows and linux
- wiretap studio - recording system audio and audio inputs
- utorrent - torrenting
- speed download - download manager and accelerator
- unrarx, the unarchiver - extracting compressed files
- snapz pro - screen casting
- silverback - useability testing - records screen and uses web cam at same time to allow user testing and feedback of using sites and applications
- mindjet mindmanager - creation mindmaps
- a suite of kracker apps for use
- flip4mac - playing wmv files
- 1password - password management app
- screensharing - share my screen and take control of others if they need help like remote desktop
- connect360 - streaming media to xbox 360
- team viewer - similar to screensharing but cross platform and cross the interwebs
- twitterific - twitter client
- tvcatchup player - playing live tv usingthe tvcatctup service
- skitch - taking quick notes and fast editing of screen grabs
- wbfs for mac 1.2 - used for manageing hard drives formatted with the wbfs filesystem for the nintendo wii
and there are lots of other apps that can replace windows apps and are often even better than the windows counterpart - the only thing i use windows for is access and publisher but mainly when i need to use access as microsoft screws mac users over.
