so i think my lappy is dying...

i was having some trouble charging my laptop, and i noticed the charger cable was frayed... so i bought a new one.  the charger (specifically the part that goes into the computer) is getting so hot that i cant touch it.  is their anything i can do to fix this or is my lappy just dead?

its a dell inspiron 1300 btw

both mine get hot, but not that hot. my avertec is used all the time and battery dosnt charge but works on AC. and my compaq works the same no charge but runs off the AC. and both dont get over 80* if it does die bury it deep.

power supplies only get really hot when the battery isn't accepting the charge properly,so it has to shed the excess current in heat.A new battery should fix it,the exact same thing happened to my Fujistu Siemens Amilo M1450g and a new battery sorted out the problem.

that's what  i thought was weird both of mine wont take a charge but wont get as hot as it sounds. also try using i w/o the battery. see if that makes a difference.

Make sure the fan is working right and theres not 10lbs of Dust and in it.
