go to a department store and get a dvd writer and run the xbox through it, whenever you want to capture something, start a recording. that is how I documented gamebattles matches. they are only like $100 now. probably cheaper than you would spend for a capture card, and I am not sure if that is something you can add to your laptop

that is the easiest way, but by all means lets here some of the more sufisticated ways of doing such!! I am not sure about the laptop though, as most of the ones I looked at for you (quck google) only had like composite in and usb out, which means you would be playing the xbox on the pc? with a PC I know it can be done with certain internal graphics cards.

aha that makes since, he is splitting the output. that would work and is what I was looking at from google, these range from $20-$60 the one downfall is the reduced picture quality. but for the price..

I have zero experience with capture cards, however one thing is that many of the pass through type cards with high picture quality make playing a game impossible due to a long lag of the picture. (I think bud has one)

Splitting it is defintately the way to go here even if you lose some quality.  Im sure someone could do something with a DVR as well, but I suspect the lag would also be an issue.

Most people I see with good captures simply use a nice LCD screen with a decent web cam, with the right lighting conditions you won't be able to tell it isnt a capta card.

I use a DVR and there is no lag. I can still get the hideff pass through also, the recording is not hd but it works for me
