My one and only desktop just died

  I loved that guy.. hopefully I can put the HDD into my dad's desktop to back it up..  sure I'll loose all my programs but I can most likely get those back.. I had lots of pictures of my mom's dad on there and around his house (those pics I posted in the art section) he moved to FL with other family and we had to sell the house and land etc... so I would really like to save those. Along with the website I've been working on and all my graphics  also had alot of important files on there. I can't really think of any right atm but it will be ERY VERY hard to track them down. I will most likely never find them again.. so wish e luck the HDD transfer works out.

I use it all the time.. it was fairly new, it had Vista 32 bit on it. Lucky this was a stock build and I still had 12 day's of warranty on it 

Haha.. I guess there's no real discussion topic to this.. but I had to vent somewhere and get some advice. Anyway.. uhm have a great day everyone

You can get a 500gb one for like $100... Which to be honest is a very small cost for the security of having at least a fairly recent backup of your data.

You should considering its cheap as crap to get one now. 50$ got me a 640GB External HD. Guess i never have to worry about my PC dieing.

Yea funny thing, I was actually saving up for a WD 1 TB HDD for $89

That can't be the reason... Servers are on 24/7. And those are just super-powerful computers. My personal computers are on close to 24/7/365, and I have never had a computer die on me yet.

Perhaps it was a heating issue. Or a huge spike from your PSU. Sure it was your mobo?

My desktop computer has been on for the past 7 months straight.

It has never been shut down.

It has been restarted a few times, of course, but even that doesn't happen too often.

Probably a heating issue, it's the slimline model and it get's.. wait excuse me, it GOT pretty hot at times. Perhaps when it's fixed I shall cut a square in the side panel and throw in a huge fan. It was on 12 hours a day everyday. I would turn it on quick in the morning to check my email, school, come home do my stuff, around 5 I usually go outside and shoot hoops, then it gets shut down about 11 PM.

If it ever breaks down again (since I would no longer be under warranty) I'll probably sell it for parts, and use the money to make my own custom build. It was pretty crappy for speed wise, would freeze up for a few sends sometimes when I had the TV turned on as background noise (I'm one of those people who simply CANNOT work without something to listen to in the background) and firefox open and I was doing photoshop and illustrator etc. Or it would lag bad when gaming. I would sell it for parts as building a GOOD computer from a "store" gets EXPENSIVE.

I leave my mac for days, weeks and even months on end. I only turn it off if
a.) im going away for a few days.
b.)its getting slow
c.)photoshop crashes
or
d.)I need to restart it after installing something.

And its in a wood cabinet with one 4 inch diameter air hole in the back.

well... if i were you i would just buy a new case that has fan slots in it.  sure you could just cut some holes in your case, but if you mess up then you are screwed.

Well actually it already has holes on the side, just nothing to pull the air out.. I could just drill holes for the fan come to think of it. No need to cut a large hole.
Post Merge: July 20, 2009, 09:12:02 PMWell lucky me it wasn't hard drive failure. I made a image backup onto my dad's 1 TB external, lucky he also has the image software lol. So when I get it back it should be like nothing ever happened. Well thats the plan anyway..
