I'd just like to know if I'm not the only one out there who hates their government.

Here's the background:
In the early 90's we had a huge economic boom known as the "Celtic Tiger",house prices rose 1000% (yes,a thousand),and there were foreigners coming into Ireland and buying them.Everybody had a job with a decent wage,basically we all had lots of money.
This was not without it's cons however,because our economy was built on the construction trade,literally!When jobs started to run out,and foreigners stopped coming over,the builders realised they had built too many houses,in fact far too many (there are enough unsold houses in Ireland to house 1 million people comfortably).So they started selling them off very cheap,which drove the rest of the countries house prices down.So now,nobody can sell their houses,people are losing their jobs,industry is leaving the country,and to add more injury to injury,this is all BEFORE the global recession happened!
Ireland currently has a 6% confidence rate in the government,and we'd impeach them if we'd get our arses out of the pub and onto the streets,but unfortunately the pub is that bit more tempting!

I'd like to hear some of your views,be they democratic,socialist,whatever!

I live in the states, and I am fairly sure nobody is happy with the way this contry is being run, obama's own party is starting to loose paitence/faith in him. we elected this official looking for "change" but the only change anyone other than the ones on welfaire have seen is a higher defacit. please, please god dont tell him what number comes after trillion, because in this four year term we may just get there LOL. where is my health care reform? where arte the promised middle class tax breaks? starting to look like his whole campain was smoke and mirrors.

I'm Irish-Irish

,I live in Dublin.I'm not on xbox live that often but my gamertag is "FaireAvecFlaire",I'm on cod4 usually,and I don't use a rapidfire

I see what you're getting at,that was also promised in our budget,but instead they just bring the taxes up drastically,and even adding new taxes!The healthcare system in Ireland is a shambles,when I had a cancerous tumour in my chest it took 3 months to get an operation to have it removed,and in that time the cancer could easily have metastasised to my other organs,thankfully it didn't!
Obama also promised to make it much easier for illegal Irish in America to get citizenship or at least a green card,but only a week ago my friend's Mum (who overstayed her visa to live with her boyfriend) went into the Irish embassy to apply for a green card,but instead she was detained and deported back to Ireland within a matter of hours.
Obama also promised our taoiseach (Irish for prime-minister) more trade on Irish beef and lamb,which seems to have sank to the bottom on Obama's seemingly endless to do list.

When I was 13 I seen this coming,I'm 17 now and I can only see it getting worse before it gets better.

I'm Indian and there is no way in hell that i'm satisfied by our government...

The indian govt. sucks way too much. One politician here got about 50 statues of herself erected all over the city... It cost a few million dollars of tax-payers money.

Today , it was found out that the education minister whose monthly salary is about $1500 (which is a very good salary in India) had about 10million dollars in his bank account.

You guys have to deal with incompetency , we have to deal with corruption. Politics is based on caste and religion over here. Many MPs have not even cleared their 10th grade......

When an uneducated person gets free reign to do whatever he wants ("goonda raaj") and has access to more money than he has ever seen in his entire life ,corruption is what you get//

corruption breeds laziness and incompetency...

India has the second largest economy in the world. This is not because of government efforts... It is inspite of the government....

Hmm... I live in Canada, and because I don't pay too much attention to politics in Canada (hell I probably paid more attention to the US elections), I can't say if I'm satisfied with my government or not. However, we have universal health care, and we aren't being as affected by the economy crisis as the US is, so I suppose my government can't be that bad...

I herd that the government members just fight with each other and tell the public bad things about others and then other come back saying bad things about the ones that are saying bad things to them. The government over there keeps going corrupt. The president over is the only nice guy in the the government but he can't seem to get everyone/thing right.

The President may be a nice guy BUT in our country the control is not in the hands of the President ... it with the Vice President....

Obama's grandmother herself said he was born in kenya. hes not even american. i no this stires up "o ur racist just cause hes black" which isnt true. i have many black friends and they ALL agree obama sucks. he hasnt done anything yet and i dont really see anything good in the future from his BS.

Its sort of a Pseudo-Anarchist view of things i guess, but even then anarchy wouldn't work because eventually someone would have to be put in charge of making certain things work, so its not an anarchy anymore.

In all honesty the government hardly matters in the life of an average joe. In the military while in war enemies often like to kill those in command, which in once again all honesty does not accomplish anything. It isn't an officer of any sort that gets any of the work done, it is the NCOs and those below them that do the actual work. I have lived in the UK, US, Korea and quite a few other countries and I can tell you honestly, they all suck. They are all the same. A corrupt politician doesn't actually affect you, with as little as any one average joe puts into there own state for taxes the self righteous attitude others hold toward government officials is sickening. Humans are corrupt, everybody tries to get ahead in life while trying to also play to popularity contest so nobody knows you are doing it. Nobody in the government really affects you average joes. They simply don't, oh the rising health care prices: are they the ones cutting you up? No it is the doctor. Gas prices? Have everybody in your town buy two shares of stock in an oil company then when they hold meetings vote against raising prices.

All government officials are the same, and so is everybody else. If you thought you could sneak off with over 100k and have nobody notice, you'd do it. So would I. Why? Because it is human nature to get ahead. Some people simply cannot mod. They may not have the intelligence, skill, materials so modders offer there services and charge for them, to get ahead. Before somebody says they are different try behaving different. Then the would will be impressed.

Just my two cents, the world sucks get over it or die trying.

I agree that America didn't want a good president,they wanted a black one,and that is in no way being racist,but over-conscientious white people and white-hating black people are what got Obama elected.Ireland relies heavily on American trade just as America relies on us to refuel it's fighter jets and commercial planes,and Obama hasn't done anything but tighten the vice on our balls.We scratch America's back,they spit in our faces (not referring to the people but rather the government).

Jumbo, I could not have possibly said it better myself.... Socialized Medicine is obviously the WRONG way to go. Things don't change overnight. Obama is going for long-term change and he's working on it, not on quick-fixes that last for a month then die. If you look past the sensationalist media reports about his family and social life you'll see he's hard at work trying to think up and implement new ideas for a better America.

That being said, I haven't been happy with the U.S. Gov't (I live in US) since young Bush was elected. Clinton was the last Good President.

It's impossible to get anything Gov't related done in India w/o bribes and/or great delays. The lines never seem to move there... luckily India moves even if the corrupt laden Gov't does not.

I disagree. I generally dislike everyone except my close friends and I only voted for Obama 'cause I really hated Palin. If McCain had picked almost anyone else (save Bush/Cheney) as V.P. I would have voted for him.

Ignorance is a problem everywhere. It should not be a crime. I suggest simply taking the warning labels off of poisons, and everything else right down to plastic bags: "Warning Possible Suffocation Risk, Do Not Put Over Head" And allow the problem to fix itself. It is a well known fact that the warning is put there because somebody has done it.

It wasn't a bad idea, it was a fantastic idea. What changes has he made for the worst? Did you ever consider that things were sliding this way for a long time and that it would have been much worse with someone like Palin/Bush/Cheney at the top? (I kinda like McCain... but not with Palin there)

I did read your post all the way through. Don't go blaming Obama for the things the Bush administration, as well as some really f-ed up people (read: Madoff) caused.

Closing Guantanamo was a good idea because torture doesn't work. What it does do is take innocent people who otherwise wouldn't have given a damn about America either way and turns them into resentful individuals who are now sympathetic to our enemies. Sure, maybe once in a while you might get a guy who knows something or is really a terrorist, but when you're literally breeding 50 more at his expense, what's the point? Also, we can't say either way whether keeping it open or closing it down would prevent attacks like 9/11. Nobody knows either way. Not for sure. ELINT and HUMINT done properly save just as many, or more, American lives than does torturing suspected terrorists for information.

You have to realize that the current health care system does not work for most Americans. It is costly, bloated, and the common taxpayer is paying a lot (I don't know specifics, sorry) for a service he/she doesn't get nearly the benefit they deserve for the cost they put in.

Obama's plan definitely looks like waaay too much money. But I bet if we added up all the unnecessary and wasteful spending and costs that arise in our current health plan, Obama's plan might look a lot more appealing. You can't just look at the face cost and dismiss it so easily. Ask yourself: Is our current system working?

i agree that he shouldn't be able to take your weapons as that is your right to as long as you use them properly. and there are some benefits to a government run health care system. i on several occasions have spoken to members on this forum when they have been ill and when i have said why not go the doctors or the hospital as i would in this country and they say they cant afford it or there premiums would go up. if they were to have a government run health care system it would mean healthcare would be accessible by all people be it old young rich or poor and without the worry of been made bankrupt because of something out of there control also having a government run system doesn't stop the private healthcare systems it just adds sever competition which i think would be a good thing as it would make healthcare in the states more affordable for private care.

if i lived in america i would much prefer a president like obama or clinton over bush as at least they are literate and at least have some brain cells - my personal opinion is that bush was just a 8 year joke and a great source of material for comedians.

robin, you raise an excellent point, however you need to call Obama and tell him that, as he wants a single pay health care system that has very little planned for private providers.

Now imagine a classroom that everone all gets the same grade depending on average of the classes performance. At first your class average is a B, but as people figure out that other members of the class are doing little or nothing for the B grade, and the ones that are working hard to maintain that average are going to work a little less on the next test because why should they carry everone? Now you have a classroom full of people relying on other people in order to achieve greatness, yet there is no incentive to do that, thus the class is full of failures even tho some of them are good enough or smart enough to individually get an A+.

If you compare the health care system to that classroom, you will see advances in science and medicine go right out the window. There will be no extroidinary doctors as they will go where they will be paid for the effort they put forth. It gets real messy real fast as you follow the chain down the line to countries that rely on cutting edge break throughs in science in order have a healthy population. the way I see it America's health care system could have global impacts much beyound just the care that americans recieve as we are on the cutting edge of medicine and breakthroughs in the US today could impact the rest of the world tommorow.

Dont get me wrong probably if someone else paid for my healthcare I would not be working for someone else, I would work for my self, and many small businesses would have an opportunity to grow or even start. The economical implications could be great, and would punch corporate america right in the face, however I dont see it being good for healthcare, and that will have economical implications in itself as it is a major piece of the both the US economy as well as the worlds.

Bush may very well have been a clown, but people have to understand that the president is merely a puppet for the people that get them elected, and those people are not common citizens. If you look deeply into the some of the problems that bush had to face during his administration, you will see slick willy sitting right there at the root of many of those problems. The clinton administration destroyed the industrial infrastructure in this county, and if you will notice the roster for the current administration, you will see a lot of familiar faces. The red side of things destroyed the finanancial infrasturcture, so neither side is doing anything that helps this country, yet corporate profits continue to rise reguardless of who is president.

Whether its a red thing or a blue thing, i dont think that it really matters as the people in charge are always in charge and they arent red or blue, they are green$$.

@ 802chives, thats kinda how Canada works there are people who are just chillax and do nothing their whole lives and claim employment insurance and get free health care ... yaayyy for them but others who spend their whole days doing hard jobs and some even do 2 different jobs a day what about them? they have their hard earned $$$ taken away cause of stupid taxes that pay for keeping stupid worthless people happy. The provinces here have way too much control, they impose their own taxes own prices and everything, somewhat like do whatever they want. The province of quebec is even more messed up, they impose their own laws that make it compulsary for people who move there(from other countries) to have to go to french speaking schools. like wtf ?? what if someone is like the smartest person in the whole school but doesn't know french? his or her schooling is screwed right? I moved from India to here when I was 13 (gonna get to that in a moment too), I used to go to a catholic school grew up speaking english(without the typical indian accent) and I was supposed to go to grade 9 when i came here,,, but these stupid

@$$%$$ did not let me go to grade 9 because "i was not old enough according to the CANADIAN education system" like seriously how bizzare is that?? then i had to go to grade 8 again and the schooling here is a piece of cake compared to private schools in India..then i moved to alberta in the middle of grade 8..... i did not even touch any books at home and passed with a

95% average.... and 96% in grade 9 ... how what bi***es?? and what happend with my parents was even worse... my dad is a veterinarian and mom is a pharmacist, my dad had to give exams to obtain canadian certificate... now he works as a vet in the government.. as i said before about the province thinger, i had gotten my learners license in alberta and could have had gotten my full license when i got 16 but nooo .. i moved back to ontario and theses people want me to give the test again (they wont accept the license from another province) to get an ontario learners and i can't do that till i'm 16 .... not even a leaners which i already have.....

now let me tell you the fun part, the part about INDIA ... India is

up ..... governments don't do anything. cops are lazy and if they catch you doing something ,not stopping at a red light for example(although no one really stops at one) just give then a Rs50 bill and your free to go no charges nothing.. how cool is that?

but the corruption sucks.. if you had to get anything done, even if it is your right, you have to pay some $$ for example just to get some leave from a government job my dad had to pay about $3000 canadian..everything has a cost there.. the politicians are rich cause they ask in millions to do even a small task.. they throw all they $$$ in foreign banks and no one finds out ..lol in india if you have $$$you are god... my family was fairly rich there had many houses and stuff so life was awesome.... my house was like 5 times the size of a regular house in us/canada ... oh yea we

Lucky you , i'm still in India and i definitely do NOT live like a king :S When did u move to Canada ? btw you must be missing all the luxuries of living in India eh ? Many houses !!! What did ur parents do ??? (sorry if its going too personal) Property is becoming so expensive here that we can no longer think of buying a new appartment.....

Bhawan, ur exactly right. this country is headed towards what has happened in Canada where the government has to much control to the point where things are out of control. If you examine the roots of why the USA is the USA today, it is because the people didnt want that kind of control because it is our country and we should decide what is best. That concept is long lost amongst the people that are in contol and are using it in order to socially engineer a society where power will remain the same reguardless of government and politica parties. Which leads me to India... the powers that be in india are always going to be there, a young person that is not born into the right family will not ever be granted the opportunity to dabble in the affairs of the priveledged which dictates the way that country is run. That is how whoever is pulling strings in the world today wants it to be, however it is not as blatent in the US as what happens in India as our pupiteers are a well oiled machine when it comes to social engineering and they can control aspects of peoples lives without them knowing it. Whether or not people care, they are being manipulated by taxes, media, and politics in general. Strife is artificially created amongst lower class citizens in order to ensure that they remain segregated, because a population as large as a lower class has the oportunity to turn things on its head, in a so called democracy, if everyone gets along. Racism and Classism are the elitist tools of mass distraction, they are the oldest tricks in the book however when that book has been censored by the gov't no one can see it as clearly as they should.

All I can say is that hopefully people are going to wake up someday, and we the people are not as dumb as everyone may think, espeacially if they think they can socially engineer a class system that ensures that power remains the same. Mark my words, with the free flow of information in todays society we are headed towards a revolution of sorts, hence why so much effort has been put forward to controll the internet. there scared, and for good reason.

i sure am missing the luxuries ... as i said my dad is a vet and my mom is a pharmacist .. my dads salary was like 35 thousand nad moms like 15 thousand and my dad also had private practice where he earned most of the money treating dogs/cats/cows/buffaloes/horses and whatever for farmers.. he treated pets for cheaper than other vets soo like most of the people withing a 35 km radius came to him...
i moved to canada in 2007... and to be honest i don't like it here...

@802chives yea... its kinda like the matrix where people just go with the flow for no reason they don't think about why they are doing stuff. they just do it because its a law or a policy, they don't think if it is fair and equitable, they just go on with it because they are told to(unknowingly of course) . Its just that we are not in our own control and we can not do anything about it but live with it because others (other people) do not share the same opinion as us so therefore this results in a situation where the opinions of those with more power matter more and are given priority than the opinions of the majority(which is often right) and the group people whose opinions control and override the opinions of other this situation in modern society is called the Government... basically its just a matter of time when the governments are gonna be controlling everything from our breathing to pooping by imposing taxes on how much we breath and how much we

Chives, it seems that you are the only one in here that is politically correct (in my eyes) when it comes to America and the way that the government is run. America was founded to have a government of check and balances, where the people had a word in what was going on in the country instead of one leader or "king/queen". The problem is, is once people in office start to get power they get greedy and want to take advantage of it, which is why many Americans say that America will fall to socialism and many at this point are right. Even some of the people in office have slipped up and said they want America to be socialized by the government...
