Arrested for Modding...what has this world come to?
« on: August 05, 2009, 06:49:37 PM »
Modded X-Box = 10 Years in Jail?

My feeling about this incident, are that he should be arrested for actually pirating games, instead of modding xboxs.
Just because he flashes the drive so that they CAN download and play games illegaly, isnt illegal.

This is nothing new. They've been doing this for a while now.

Technically he CAN be, though, because you're not allowed to do these things.

but guys... if you bought the xbox, shouldn't you be able to do whatever the f :censored: you want with it? whether it be lighting it on fire or flashing the drive. limewire and utorrent COULD be used for piracy, but you dont see the creators of them getting arrested.

Uh no... Just because you own it doesn't mean you can do whatever you want. Just because I own knives doesn't mean I can run around killing people whenever I feel like it, just because they're MY knives.

Even making backups of games that you own is kinda a gray area... I'm not sure and it also depends on where you live.

He means if you own something you can do WHAT EVER YOU WANT TO IT. Not to other. We didnt kill someone using a 360...... You can do what you want and you cant get in truble from the makes because its now YOURS.

didnt really follow the story all that much, but i suspect he was selling games as well as flashing drives.  the case wouldnt have a prayer if all he was doing was flashing drives.

Probably was offering "free games" with flash.

the only penalty you should be inflicted with if you modify your console is banning from online services and playing games. Yes, playing games. Games are only meant to be played on 'authorised hardware', and the network services of a console are only supposed to be used on 'authorised hardware'. What this means is, if you make ANY modification to your console, whether it be a soft or hardmod, they have the right to ban you from online and if they can, disable the disc drive or just brick your console as you broke the terms of service and use. It may not be illegal to modify your xbox or ps3, but it sure is against the terms of service and use put up by the respective companies.

Anyone care to enlighten me as to how you could have safety risks when pirating?

Well if he was more careful then he wouldn't have gotten caught which would eliminate his parents having to beat him. I think that counts as significant health and safety risks. XD
